The Formosa Cafe is a restaurant and bar founded in 1939 and located at 7156 Santa Monica Boulevard at the intersection with North Formosa Avenue, in West Hollywood, California.

The restaurant has a long history of movie star and film industry patronage due to its close proximity to studio lot across the street, which began as the United Artists lot and was later owned by Warner Bros. Generations of movie stars such as Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable have eaten meals at The Formosa. Frank Sinatra is reputed to have spent many nights at the Formosa in the 1950s, pining over Ava Gardner.

After a brief 2 year hiatus, a complete refurbishment, and a tremendous menu update The Formosa Cafe has returned to serve the Los Angeles community once again.

    Formosa is an iconic spot. Cocktail program is fun and you can’t beat the decor. Food can be uneven. Sometimes tastes like it’s been scooped out of a pre-cooked steam table. Feel for the servers as it looks like they are stretched way too thin and diners’ experience suffers for it. Maybe best to stick to bevs and apps.

    Never disappoints! And tonight was no exception. Drinks were fantastic (the Ava Gardeners’s Dance Party was the table gave), Mickey our server was FAB and the food was yummy as always. I really enjoy still being able to come here, iconic LA spot for sure!

    The food was awesome and the atmosphere was great. We had a nice booth in the corner which was great as it can get quite noisy.

    The Formosa has been restored to its original stylish, 1930s Hollywood Chinese Era ambience of sophistication but not too stuffy. Good food, good drinks, classy and comfortable.

    Went for a late lunch with my partner. We chose to sit in the train car. We ordered Crispy Potstickers, Kung Pao Chicken, and Lettuce Wraps with Pork Belly and Shrimp. Everything was freshly prepared, and portions were generous. We also had 2 beers and one simple cocktail. Service was perfect. We weren't bothered too frequently, nor were we neglected. Bill was just over $100 before tip. I highly recommend The Formosa Cafe.

    After Thanksgiving family dinner. Such a great experience! Loved the atmosphere and memorabilia and food and service were great! Several in our party remarked on the unique and fun choice of restaurant.
