The Formosa Cafe is a restaurant and bar founded in 1939 and located at 7156 Santa Monica Boulevard at the intersection with North Formosa Avenue, in West Hollywood, California.

The restaurant has a long history of movie star and film industry patronage due to its close proximity to studio lot across the street, which began as the United Artists lot and was later owned by Warner Bros. Generations of movie stars such as Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable have eaten meals at The Formosa. Frank Sinatra is reputed to have spent many nights at the Formosa in the 1950s, pining over Ava Gardner.

After a brief 2 year hiatus, a complete refurbishment, and a tremendous menu update The Formosa Cafe has returned to serve the Los Angeles community once again.

I really enjoy ordering TOGo from there. The food is made to order, hot and fresh. When I went for lunch at around 1:30 a few days ago, it was pretty quiet which was good for conversation. Staff was wonderful however, the food was lacking this time in freshness and flavor especially the cauliflower which I order often. I’ll take this time as a one off.

It was a very cool experience at this historic venue our only complaint was the food came out lukewarm which was strange since it was not crowded at all but the server and bartender were great lots of personality and very fun.

Our first ever Christmas Dinner out. Thankful we were able to make reservations weeks out and we were seated as soon as we arrived. We ordered a bottle of wine, with an appetizer and a couple dishes to share. We were really surprised how fast our food came and how fresh it tasted. Our server was great and met all our needs. Our overall experience was an A+

Service and staff were excellent. Pleasant and engaging with the group. Menu seemed a bit limited but what we had was good but not anything I havent had elsewhere at less 'famous' establisments. Overall a great night and cool place to visit.

Excellent experience. Beautiful venue, great food. The hostess and waiter were great. Only drawback was a cranky bartender.

We had a wonderful lunch at the Formosa Cafe -- our second visit. The staff was gracious and very professional. Excellent food and outstanding ambiance. We love that the owners wanted to keep this historic restaurant as close as possible to its roots as a Hollywood gem.
