French Roast has been fulfilling the appetites and quenching the thirsts of Upper West Side residents for over 27 years. 1) My advance request for a QUIET table wasn't honored. I had to point out the quiet table to the hostess. 2) The waitress service was just the right tone of pleasant and performing. In the future I will know to ask for a pot of hot water, instead of just a cup. Also with the pot another cup for holding the stale water. 3) I was very pleased with my escargots, and I asked for extra bread--which was excellent. However, when at my request, the bread was packed, the butter was omitted. 4) I hope to eat my way thru your menu for its fresh food and excellent execution. 5) I have found that tipping 1/3rd results in attentive wait staff that looks well nourished.

In for Happy Hour great options and even a fun non- alcoholic menu which my friend who doesn’t drink really appreciated . Always a great place to meet for any meal any time of day . Staff treats you like you are part of the family .

Definitely loud for brunch, but that’s to be expected in a space this small. And all the food and drinks were delicious - everything was clearly fresh and super flavorful. Some of the best coffee in the city.

Considering how high the ratings are for the food, I expected it to be better than average, but it wasn’t. There’s also a push to try to squeeze as many people in as possible, so even though we receded near the door where it was freezing from the breeze, they would not see us in a booth that could accommodate six people Instead of our five. Disappointing.

Great venue. I've been coming here for years. The food quality is great and the prices are reasonable. I can't wait to go back again. My favorites are the escargot and the Catalan mussels and fries. My only critique: PLEASE get rid of the TV at the bar.

valentines day slam did not help luke warm to cool main dishes that were also overcooked. too small a place for that kind of crowd. service was nice but very slow.
