General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

    Amazing experience! Great food, really fun and cute vibe and absolutely 10/10 service. Our server Tyler did a great job at guiding us through the menu and choosing our courses! Would go back in a heartbeat :)

    Absolutely outstanding! I was there at 11 am and had the breakfast sandwich. It was a very good choice! The english chips (fries) are also wonderful. The server was attentive and fun!

    Such a great first visit. So nice to have an option like this in the neighbourhood open for lunch. It’s right around the corner from our office so I see many more lunches, happy hours and dinner meetings in our future :)

    Had an incredible time at General Public. The service and vibes were amazing and memorable. Jen Agg even filled our water glasses and served us desert ☺️. The caviar with mini Yorkshires is a dish we’ll be thinking about for a while - so delicious, as was the NY strip and chips. Definitely a top restaurant in the city and one that I’d recommend. CNN

    The place is really cozy and intimate, the service is present but not too much, really good cocktails and wines. My only concern is the food, it’s good but too many dishes were fried. When it’s fried, you loose the taste of the ingredients. Why do you fried the paté ????

    Very welcoming environment with tasteful decor. Service was friendly and balanced which is not a given in many places. Thankfully the food matched the initial impressions of the restaurant. Each of the courses we had was tasty and flavourful. Really nice addition to Geary.
