Gertrudes generally provides a great service and ambiance. Today they were subpar, and I think having a reservation at 2:45, when they stop seating at 3 pm, was the problem. The food was cold, and the waitstaff behaved as if they were ready to leave. Everything felt rushed. They should stop seating at 2pm to allow better service and food opportunities.

Great waiter (Tom). Helpful easy going and engaging about the museum. Food has stepped it up since my last visit. Small selection of oyster but perfectly shucked. I had an easy order just the Eggs Benedict, but my wife had the Maui Maui and cooked to perfection with a light sauce.

Wonderful location immediately off the Baltimore Museum of Art. Decor and ambience are first class, and the food service ambassabor (server), Ronnie, was courteous, knowledgeable, efficient, professional and unobtrusive. The food was perfectly prepared and elegantly presented. Overall a pleasant and memorable experience; a restaurant definitely to be revisited.

Sitting on the covered patio was terrible. Heating system blew excessive hot air with a loud noise.

FAQs

Yes, Gertrude’s is a popular choice for a date night. The dining room and sculpture‑garden patio create a romantic, casual‑elegant setting, and guests frequently praise the attentive service, creative menu and desserts. Dinner service is recommended for a quieter, more intimate experience; outdoor seating by the fountain is lovely on warm evenings. If you want a special touch, mention a celebration when you book and they’ll usually accommodate. Reservations are available for dinner.

Portions are generally generous and satisfying, guests often say entrees have decent size and Thursday specials or Lobstermania are particularly hearty. A few guests noted that some crab‑cake portions can feel smaller than expected, and sides vary (some guests loved them, others found them uneven). Overall you’ll likely leave content, but if you’re especially hungry ask your server about portion size or the Thursday special.

Yes, Gertrude’s is accessible and family‑friendly. Guests mention the restaurant is accommodating to wheelchairs and special needs, and many families celebrate birthdays or bring children for brunch. The staff are described as helpful with seating requests and special needs. There’s no dedicated kids’ menu widely mentioned, so for young children consider an early seating and call ahead if you need specific accommodations.

Best time depends on your priorities: for a quieter meal, aim for weekday lunch or an earlier brunch; several guests said early morning or midweek visits were peaceful. If you want lively atmosphere and specials, Thursday evenings (Thursday with Gertie, Lobstermania) are popular for value and fixed‑price menus. Weekend midday (brunch) and evenings can be busy and louder, book ahead or consider arriving early. During special exhibitions the restaurant limits daytime reservations to allow walk‑ins.

Gertrude’s offers indoor dining in a cozy, elegant room plus outdoor seating in the sculpture garden and a tented patio by the fountain. Guests frequently mention window tables, booths in the back, and outdoor tables cooled by fans or heated in cooler months. The restaurant does not advertise private rooms but accepts larger parties, call ahead if you need a specific table or accessibility accommodations.

Warm, artful and relaxed, Gertrude’s blends casual‑elegant dining with a museum setting. Guests praise the beautiful dining room, sculpture‑garden patio and civilized, friendly vibe. Expect a lively scene when the restaurant is full (several guests note it can get noisy), but many also describe it as enchanting, comfortable for conversation, and ideal for special occasions.

Smart casual. Guests typically arrive in relaxed but neat attire appropriate for a museum‑adjacent, casual‑elegant restaurant. If you’re celebrating a special occasion you might dress a touch dressier, but there’s no formal gown or tux requirement.

Yes, the staff are generally accommodating. Guests report successful requests for specific seating, celebration touches, and assistance with accessibility. The restaurant asks that you call if you have booking problems or need help; reservations for dinner are available and they accept large parties. For high‑demand times or exhibition periods, call ahead to confirm seating requests.

Families do dine here and guests often bring children for brunch or celebrations, so it’s kid‑friendly in practice. The menu doesn’t highlight a dedicated kids’ menu in reviews, so for younger children consider an early seating or call ahead about menu flexibility. Many guests praise the relaxed atmosphere and servers’ helpfulness with families.

Yes, the restaurant uses a waitlist for walk‑ins and will text you when your table is ready. During the current exhibition they limit brunch/lunch reservations to leave room for walk‑ins, so expect a waitlist at busy daytime periods; dinner reservations remain available.

Busiest: weekend brunches, Thursday evenings (popular specials), museum event nights and summer outdoor evenings, guests report lively, sometimes noisy dining rooms at peak times. Quietest: weekday lunches, early brunches and early weekday dinners; several guests specifically mentioned peaceful midweek or early morning visits. If you prefer quiet, aim for midweek or an early seating.

Thursday is a standout, guests praise the Thursday with Gertie fixed‑price specials and Lobstermania as great value and crowd‑pleasers. If you want a quieter experience, choose a weekday (Tue–Thu lunch or midweek dinner) or an early brunch. Weekend brunches are popular for museum visits but tend to be busier.

Yes, Gertrude’s has historically been open for major holidays and special occasions (guests report attending Easter brunches, Mother’s Day and Valentine’s dinners). Hours may vary on holidays, so call ahead or check availability when planning holiday dining.

Yes, Gertrude’s offers attractive outdoor seating in the Baltimore Museum of Art’s sculpture garden and a tented patio by the fountain. Guests frequently praise dining outside (fans in warm weather, heaters in colder months), though note the fountain and full dining room can make conversation loud. Outdoor seating is a highlight for many visitors.
