Situated on the High Street of Eton, close to the River Thames and between the historic buildings of Eton College and Windsor Castle, Gilbey's is open from 12 noon for lunch and 6pm for dinner every day.
Originally an old butcher's shop, we created one of the first wine bars outside London in 1975 - The Eton Wine Bar. After 25 years of success, we changed the name in 2000 to Gilbey's, having recognised that our food had outgrown the original wine bar concept. Our friendly and efficient team look forward to welcoming you in either the stunning Conservatory Restaurant, cosy Front Bar and Townhouse, one of our newly opened Townhouse guest bedrooms or our top floor studio apartment-our exclusive guest accommodation.

Our lovely first floor Private Dining room is for parties of between 8 and 16. We also have a larger private dining room called The gallery which seats 17-34 and has it's own private, heated patio garden.The Conservatory, leading on to the Courtyard Garden is ideal for parties of 30 to 60.

Great food. Charming staff but service not great. Had to ask for water at table, had to chase menus etc.

Had a lovely evening meal at Gilbeys on Saturday in the conservatory. The fish and chips were excellent, as always. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and ambience lovely.

Delicious Valentine menu but portions were a tiny bit small. Overall a lovely evening 😍

Super evening. My wife commented “definitely one of the best meals I’ve had out a very long time” Quite pricey but worth it.

We booked for Sunday lunch which was based upon a fixed price menu for 2 or 3 courses. I prefer a meat free selection and my husband eats anything whilst my husbands’ shepherds pie was excellent, my vegetarian main course would barely pass as starter. There was almost no mozzarella in the croquettes so it was mainly potato which was ordinary on a well flavoured provencale style sauce. In summary the vegetarian option (only 1 on the menu) did not represent value for money. Lovely ambience, attentive staff let down by poor selection for the every growing need to invest in tasty and nutritionally balanced vegetarian/ vegan tastes.

Very disappointing and not up to standard of previous visits. Problem with chef? Onion in soup not properly cooked and risotto vegetables not fully incorporated in stock. Very sloppy.Chips not crisped.!. Haddock nt cod as on menu dry and not hot. Service not very attentive. All in all expensive for what we had. Regrettably will not be back to an old faviourite restaurant.
