   I am a frequent solo diner and Gitanes is a place to get a wonderful dinner after a day of grinding! Hanger cut on the Steak Frites was amazing even with my “well-done” choice. The White Bronco was a refreshing cocktail and it definitely reminded me of acquitting things if they do not fit. The Sorbet was a nice dessert after feeling lethargic from the good food and good service. 5 big booms! 💥💥💥💥💥

   We thoroughly enjoyed the Chef’s table and the intimacy of the experience. The food and service were excellent! We will do it again.

   Quality of food, presentation, wait staff very all excellent. Lovely restaurant in downtown Ottawa. Great for couples or small groups. Remember paying for quality and a range of different dishes which may not get elsewhere with excellent service.

   So lucky to have such a wonderful place for a night out. Thursday night Steak Frites continue to be outstanding and clearly appreciated based on a full house last night on a cold January evening. The food is scrumptious, fairly portioned and served by table staff with knowledge and style. Wonderfully accommodating front of house staff get all the tables just right. Gitanes... mmmm.

   Hello Paul, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We take pride in our food and service and are disappointed to hear that you felt there was value missing in your meal. Everything in our kitchen is prepared from scratch using local and sustainable ingredients and a lot of the costs associated with this have definitely gone up in recent years. That said, we do try to extend value to our guests with menu items like the 'Gitanes Burger' always on the menu for $30 as well as our '$30 Steak Frites et Vin' feature every Thursday.    10/10 experience - this was my first time at Gitanes and it was great. Food was exceptional, service was lovely, and vibes were cozy & secluded. Ottawa gem!

   I was had a dear pal from Toronto visiting me in Ottawa for the first time, Both of us being foodies( he having extensive experience in high end hospitality) I had the daunting task of picking the perfect restaurant for our reunion dinner. And did I get it right on! Our experience ( my second, his first) from start to finish did not disappoint in the least. Starting with a warm welcome from Stephanie, to ending with a sublime chocolate dessert and digestive. the evening hit all the right notes beautifully. Amazing food, wine pairing( guided expertly by Stephanie for each course), ambience, service( courses were timed just right)- perfect! And my dinner companion was impressed- enough to inquire about purchasing a case of lovely Chablis and perhaps making another trip to Ottawa to dine at Gitanes!

    I would like to start by saying that I have never posted a review on any restaurant before but I feel compelled to provide one for Gitanes. Although the restaurant ambience and service is good the food is grossly overpriced, particularly the seafood tower which was lacking sufficient seafood for what you pay $140 for. Although others enjoyed their main course, I did not as the duck was chewy and tepid warm at best. I had high expectations but left disappointed. Fois gras, which barely resembled fois gras that I am accustomed too, was also a disappointment. Maybe my expectations were too high but the value for what you pay is questionable at best. I am disheartened that I am having to write this after paying close to $600 including tip for four people which I do not mind doing as I have dined in many Michelin started establishments but I was disappointed to say the least.

Your notes have been shared with the team so we can avoid this temperature issue in the future. Regarding your comments on value, it has been a constantly increasing period of inflation and managing costs is no easy feat. We also put great care into sourcing fresh and sustainable product from local farms and suppliers, which we highlight in our scratch kitchen. We believe the farming and fishing practices of our vendors gives much better product. We do hope to welcome you back in the future - should you choose to dine with us again I have left a note on your file so we can make special accommodation.
