The Japanese film Tampopo was marketed as the world’s first “ramen western”. It’s the story of two truck drivers, Goro & Gun, who use their culinary expertise to change the fate of a struggling noodle shop. Those two characters' passion for noodle-making lives on at Calgary’s 150-seat noodle bar — led by executive chef Ryusuke Araki. Located inside Stephen Avenue Place, upstairs on the Plus 15 level, the restaurant melds modern art graphics with distinctive hardwood and right angles of Japanese decor. Tuck into a steaming bowl of ramen with our house-made noodles, made even better with an aji-tama egg. Or depart from noodle fare with house specialities like tuna poke or pork steam buns. Our menu boasts a variety of vegetarian, gluten, and dairy-free options. Whenever possible, dishes are prepared using wild fish instead of farmed. Complete your meal with one of 25 sakes from Goro & Gun’s curated selection from our Sake Sommelier, Amanda Jansen.

Had a great meal for Valentine’s Day. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. Happy hour pricing until 7 didn’t break the bank. Ramen was really good and was glad to see they had gluten free noodles for me.

This was the first time that we had gone to Goro + Gun and we were left incredibly disappointed. The food was honestly mediocre at best, with many of the items being randomly lemon-y or too salty. The ramen also wasn’t that great. In terms of service, servers were nice but weren’t attentive or always there. At one point, they refill one glass of water and missed the fact that the other two glasses on the table were empty. Overall, really disappointing experience. Would not come back.

Lunch was busy as always but service was good and the food excellent. It was quite noisy because of the busy-ness, but it didn’t cause us a problem and it got quieter as the lunch crowd dispersed. And I know I’m repeating myself, but the flood as always was excellent. I will be returning!

Arrived a little late for our reservation only to be told the restaurant kitchen had closed. It should be made more clear in the OpenTable system that they are a daytime restaurant. We went elsewhere!

Fantastic food, great service and energetic vibe. We wanted to check out their happy hour and it didn’t disappoint! Absolutely amazing selection. Just sad we didn’t have enough room to try the ramen. Definitely going back. Great cocktail, beer and sake selection too!

My friends and I wanted an afternoon tea together and we ended up at Goro+Gun during Happy Hour. The restaurant has the longest Happy Hour available that I know of. From 2pm to 7pm. It also has a huge variety of snack foods and drinks. All items are full menu quality and quantity. We were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable menu price, high quality food and the excellent service.
