Went for lunch on Easter Sunday - excellent food - unfortunately we were the only lunchtime booking so ate in solitary splendour!!

Lovely quiet restaurant. Enjoyed our evening, especially having comfy sofas for our coffee afterwards

Had dinner on a Sunday and the restaurant was very quiet although they were hostinga wedding at the same time. Lovely buildings and location - very quiet and classy. Service was very professional - attentive but not over the top. Menu was a short set menu (£35 for two courses, £40 for three) but with a good variety of options. Starters were served very quickly (home made tomato soup and a ham hock terrine) which were excellent. Mains were beautifully cooked and presented (the sea trout with samphire was exquisite) - only possible criticism would be that serving dishes in a deep bowl may look cool but it does make it hard to eat and enjoy all of the sauce! I had two glasses of the Primitivo which was excellent and served at a perfect temperature. The wine list presented only a few options for wine by the glass but this is a minor gripe. Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream did not disappoint either. We walked around the gardens after we finished supper and it was well worth the effort - the walled garden provides a lot of fresh produce for the kitchen. I would recommend eating here - not cheap but the cooking was excellent and the service was very good.

Myself and my partner went to Guyers house for valentines The venue is very nice. The staff are friendly and fairly young. If I was managing this venue I would have to help the staff by giving them customer care training and ensuring that we had systems in place to ensure there were no mix ups on delivery of the food. I would also ensure that table checks were done. The staff were friendly and they deserve to have some guidance in my opinion. The food is very good as I said and it is expensive.

I booked this place for a rare night away from our kids. I was attracted by the setting - an old country house with big fireplaces. Unfortunately, none of the fires were lit, even though it was mid-March. The dining room was very quiet, with two other couples in a rather formal environment (though, to be fair, it was a Monday night). The staff were lovely and welcoming, and the food was good and perfectly cooked. I was very disappointed by the lack of a fire, as it meant the room felt a bit dead. We were asked if we would like to take our coffee in the lounge - we agreed, thinking the fire would be on in there. We were disappointed again, despite there being a huge fireplace with a basket of logs at the ready. I had to sit by the radiator to keep warm. The brasserie section looked a bit more lively, so I think I'd book there next time if we were to go again. The hotel guests/other diners seemed to be mainly retirees, so it was altogether a bit quiet for us but may be perfect for others. I can't fault the service but just disappointed at the lack of warmth/atmosphere.
