noun / ˈɡweɪləʊ
origin: Cantonese (Hong Kong)
meaning: a Chinese (Cantonese) term that literally translates as “Ghost Man”. In the past, “Gwailo” was used to refer to white colonials, though is now colloquially used to refer to all people of foreign decent, especially, but not limited to, those from the West.

GWAILO is a fun and funky restaurant and bar in the heart of beautiful downtown Inglewood, serving Chef Wong’s creative western-influenced Honk Kong-adjacent cuisine.

Charcoal-grilled chuan sticks, dumplings, noodles, gwai-fried chicken burgers and other greats, hanging out with pan-Asian inspired cocktails, amazing wine, and local beers on tap. Great tunes, awesome people and eclectic décor. It’s a good time!

it was a little too dim for my personal preference and the music was a bit loud so we had to kind of shout a little at each other, though the staff was great.

Gwalio continues everything we loved about gorilla whale. I was apprehensive at first because of how much we adored gorilla whale but my concerns were unfounded. Such a great spot

So happy that we ate here! On date night and decided to order several dishes to sample - mouth watering cucumbers, naked crab rangoon, bbq pork buns, and salt & pepper squid. All were AMAZING and it was the perfect amount for two people. Will definitely return to try some of their other dishes, but will likely order the naked crab rangoon and the salt & pepper squid because they are instantly addictive!

Great service and food is amazingly fresh and delicious. Crab Ragoon was best I’ve ever had. Chicken noodle chow mein was filled with vegetables and chicken. Only wished I lived in Calgary so I could revisit.
