Celebrating the traditional South African braai, Hammer & Tongs specialises in generous portions of succulent meats. Juicy steaks and ribs are marinated in herbs and spices, and served alongside a diverse exclusively South African wine list, signature cocktails and craft beers in a warm, inviting setting.

The Hammer & Tongs menu is centred around the traditional South African barbecue, known as a braai. Imported Sekelbos wood from Namibia is used to smoke the beef, pork, chicken and fish dishes, with delicacies including spiced pork belly skewers with apple and cider compote, and boerewors beef sausage served with homemade chutneys. The restaurant also bakes its own beer bread, and features a selection of gourmet salads for non meat eaters.

For pudding there are exotic sweet treats like chilli grilled pineapple with ginger ice cream and toasted coconut, while the bar mixes up all kinds of signature cocktails.

food was great and our waiter was really friendly, i gave it 4 stars because i didn’t like the desert, we got the chocolate moose and it was too bitter for me. other than that great food!

This place was recommended by a friend as a nice South African restaurant but I wouldn’t not be recommending it to my friends. I made the reservation a week before Valentines Day and in that time I was more than a few times to confirm that we are still going. We arrived 10 minutes before the time I booked and the place was full with no free tables so we were offered a table in their downstairs hall so we had to take it. The ambience downstairs was not great. Dark, no decor, no nothing. Felt like you are in a dark room or garage or something. Service was slow and the waiter didn’t seem very friendly. The starter came quick because it was just a few slices of biltong but the main took over an hour to get ready. It was some grilled meats and they came cold, some undercooked some overcooked. I definitely won’t be coming back anytime soon

An un heard of restaurant I think in Farringdon. Food is so good and wine lovely great for business lunches and not too expensive

It's a great find for casual lunchtime dining. The steak was cooked well and the menu is simple and very tasty. There's nothing to fault. It is an unpretentious place offering good value and food.

I’m not sure if H&T just had a bad night but it took over an 1 hour and 30 mins to be served our food and when it came, it was cold. Of course by this point we were all starving so just ate. I think the food would have tasted a lot better had it been hot which is why I went down the middle with my score. On a positive note the chips were tasty and the cheese toasties (not sure the SA word for it) were great. I found the service to be pretty bad, with lack of communication and extremely slow service not only on food but also drinks. I know another table complained that it had taken them over 20 minutes to be served some drinks. Apart from a picture of nelson Mandela there wasn’t really a South African vibe which is something we were all hoping for. The music was chart music and slightly too loud. A lot of wines were also out of stock that night. Luckily we visited when it was 50% off food. Had it not been I would have been arguing for at least that. Sadly the restaurant fell flat throughout the whole evening and did not meet expectations. I would not recommend to friends nor would I visit again

Nice selection of meats! The service was good also a nice spot to catch up with friends! The fries were absolutely spot on!

Great way to start the new year Would recommend to anyone who likes their meat, will be back.
