Initial entrance was encouraging, stylish interior, atmospheric and decent service. Then it all went downhill :
There weee two of us but only one odour drinks arrived. We had to flag down three members of staff before eventually my friends drink was delivered.
Our starter arrived and was disappointing, though the instant we finished the main course arrived, no 5 minute break to digest the cardboard calamari.
Once we’d finished the ok but very fatty steak, the empty main course plates were left on our table because the staff had dematerialised. No one to be seen, we were totally neglected. After 20 minutes I had to wave a menu at someone managerial to kick start our pudding order.
My calamari starter was one of the worst dishes - beautifully presented in a tall dish but tough as cardboard to eat and hard in texture, could barely get a fork into any of it without it falling onto the table.
Steak main course was ok but there was so much fat in it even the steak knife I was given was barely capable of cutting through it. Almost a quarter of the dish I had to leave as it was pure fat.
Pudding fared much better - the sorbet was delicious but probably came out of a tub to make life easy ? Just guessing.
Two women sat next to us and started to play inane moronic videos on their phones, loudly on speakerphone for us to (not) enjoy. There really should be a restaurant policy for NO speakerphone use in public.
I for one couldn’t wait to get out and when we did, there was nowhere in the enormously empty lobby to put anything down while we donned our coats, Inhad to balance my parcel on top of the small maitre d desk - and the two members of staff couldn’t even be bothered to speak to us or open the heavy door to help us leave. Maybe they knew I was going to write this review 😎
Would I go back or recommend ? Sorry Harry, NO way. Chucs is around the corner and offers way better value for much less than the £195 we were robbed of. Oh and the service there is awesome.
