  • Steak and side for £16

    £16.00 per person

    Jan 1, 2026 - Jan 31, 2026
Our beloved Steak & side menu has made a return. And after 21,000 of you tucked into it last January (so much so that we nearly ran out of steak), how could we possibly deprive you of it again? Super-lean, protein-packed rump steak, a choice of 4 Hawksmoor sides, and some blues-busting service, all for just £16. And because our beef is sourced from farmers who care for their herds, raised slowly, stress-free on a natural diet of grass, you’re eating food that not only tastes good but does good too – that sounds like a good resolution to us. Pair your Rump steak with a choice of four lighter sides: Bitter Leaf salad, Butter lettuce & herb, Sweet potato or (of course) our legendary beef-dripping chips. Our Rump and a side menu are available Monday-Friday 12-6pm and Saturday 12-5pm, it's the ideal pre-theatre pit stop, mid-shop refuels, or simply a good excuse for a proper lunch. Same Hawksmoor quality, just friendlier on the January wallet.

Excellent deal - steak and chips £16! Good quality and quantity was very good. Price of drinks really bumped up the bill however - to be expected in a city centre restaurant but prepare to pay £40+ for a 500ml carafe of Malbec, £11 for a glass of Prosecco, £5 for a very small latte (served in a glass without a handle). Service was very friendly and professional. So overall we would highly recommend Hawksmoor.
    Hawksmoor EdinburghResponded 1 day ago
Hi Ann, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the £16 steak and chips and found both quality and quantity to your liking. We appreciate your comments on drinks pricing and the latte presentation — city centre dining can carry a premium, but we’ll take your feedback on board. It’s wonderful to hear that our service was friendly and professional, and we’re thrilled that you would recommend Hawksmoor. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another enjoyable visit. Best regards, The Hawksmoor Edinburgh Team

Sadly poor on this occasion. I believe the kitchen was understaffed today. This resulted in a wait of 45 minutes for our starters. This had the knock-on effect of our mains being ready and sitting under the hot plate until the food was dried up. Not what we’d expect here. Server was apologetic and we were charged only for the mains and drinks.
    Hawksmoor EdinburghResponded 1 day ago
Hi Anne, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re very sorry that your visit didn't offer the high standard you rightly expect of Hawksmoor. The extended wait for your starters and the subsequent impact on your mains sounds like you didn't get the best from us, and the high quality we're normally so very well known to offer fell short, which is never our intention. We’re glad our server was apologetic and that the bill was adjusted accordingly, but we completely understand that this did not fully make up for the disappointment. Your comments have been shared with both restaurant and kitchen management teams to help ensure service is managed more effectively, particularly on busy or challenging days. Best regards, The Hawksmoor Edinburgh Team

Hi Connor, Thank you for your feedback. We’re very sorry your experience did not meet expectations and that you felt the value did not reflect the bill. A very elegant dining venue in the centre of Edinburgh, specialising in high quality chargrilled steaks. Booking was easy, Steak variety, preparation and quality was excellent albeit quite expensive; we had 2 courses and drinks (glasses of) at £100pp plus 12.5% service charge. Service was also very good and efficient, the understanding the menu tariff was quite a challenge until explained by our waitress. This is a special treat elegant restaurant in a Grade 1 listed building so we were quite surprised that there was no discernable staff uniform and the music was not themed in anyway to the style of the premises and offer.

Hi Vincent, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the variety, preparation, and quality of our steaks, and that our service met your expectations. We appreciate your observations regarding staff uniforms and the music. While our approach is designed to be deliberately relaxed, your comments are noted, as we continually consider how to ensure the atmosphere and setting complement the special dining experience our exquisite building offers. FAQs

The team has shown they’ll accommodate an emotional support dog, but there isn’t a formal public policy listed about general dog-friendly outdoor/indoor dining. If you plan to bring a pet dog, call ahead to confirm availability and suitable seating, the staff are described as helpful and willing to assist.

Yes, Hawksmoor Edinburgh is a popular choice for a date night. Guests praise the stylish, low-lit dining room, polished service and cocktails, and standout steaks that make it feel special without being overly formal. It’s often recommended for anniversaries, celebrations and pre-theatre meals. If you want a quieter table, request a booth or an early seating when you book. Expect a buzzy, warm atmosphere and higher-end prices appropriate for a treat night out.

Yes, the team is used to handling special requests. Guests frequently report the staff helping with birthday touches, dietary needs, quiet tables and requests for special seating. For private dining, large parties or accessibility needs, call ahead so the restaurant can prepare and personalise your visit.

Families do dine here, guests regularly bring teens and celebrate birthdays with children. The focus is on steaks and seafood rather than a children’s menu, though many parents report the staff being accommodating. For younger children consider an early seating, a booth or private dining and call ahead to check menu flexibility.

Yes, Hawksmoor Edinburgh offers private dining areas and can accommodate large parties. Guests report using the venue for birthdays, special occasions and larger group bookings; contact the restaurant to reserve private rooms and discuss menus or special requests.

The ambience is stylish and buzzy, a historic bank building with low lighting and a warm, lively feel. Guests often describe it as perfect for special occasions but note it can get noisy at peak times due to high ceilings and hard surfaces. Overall the tone is relaxed but polished, ideal for steak dinners, cocktails and celebrations.

Busiest: weekend evenings and Sunday for the famed Sunday roast, guests frequently report a lively, busy dining room. Quietest: weekday lunchtimes and Monday (notably the BYOB offer), plus during off-peak midweek hours when set-lunch and pre-theatre menus make for a calmer experience.

Yes, staff have accommodated an emotional support dog and provided water and a blanket for the animal, so service animals and similar needs are treated considerately. For pet visits (non-service animals) always call ahead to confirm current policy and suitable seating.

The dress code is casual, guests typically dress smart-casual for the relaxed yet polished setting. If you’re attending a special celebration, smart-casual attire is common and fits the room’s stylish atmosphere.

It depends on your goal: for a lively, celebratory evening choose Friday/Saturday or Sunday roast; for value and a quieter visit pick weekday lunch or the Monday BYOB/set-lunch offers. Guests particularly praise the lunch set menu and Monday BYOB as excellent value and less crowded.

Portions are generally generous for mains and sides, steaks are served by weight (including large sharing cuts like chateaubriand) and many guests report being well satisfied after a steak with a couple of sides. Some guests note sides can be small or ordered separately, so plan for an extra side or two if you want more veg or chips. Sharing a large steak between two or more people is common and works well.

Family-friendly seating is available, guests frequently celebrate birthdays and visit with children, teens and older family members. The team is also happy to move guests to quieter tables on request and they offer booths and bar seating. Specific accessibility features (ramps, accessible toilets) aren’t listed in the information provided, so call ahead if you need wheelchair access or other accommodations.

For a quieter, good-value visit try weekday lunch or the set lunch/pre-theatre menus, guests highlight the lunch menu and Monday BYOB as particularly good value and less busy. If you want the full Sunday roast experience, go early (it’s very popular). Evenings and weekends are buzzy and lively, great for date nights or celebrations but expect it to be busy.

Hawksmoor offers a mix of seating: cosy booths, bar seating and private dining areas for larger groups or special events. Guests often mention being moved to booths or quieter areas when requested, and the restaurant accepts large parties, making it suitable for celebrations and business dinners.

There’s no public mention of a formal waiting list in the available information, but Hawksmoor is often fully booked at peak times. Guests recommend booking ahead for weekends, Sunday roast and special dates. If you arrive without a reservation you may face a wait; calling in advance is wise during busy periods.

Hawksmoor Edinburgh is open most days with slightly extended weekend hours. Current hours are: Mon–Thu 12:00–21:30; Fri–Sat 12:00–22:00; Sun 11:45–21:00. If you’re planning a special booking (private dining or a large party) it’s a good idea to call ahead.
