   We love Holly Hill but this was our first visit for brunch. It won’t be our last! Food and service were outstanding.

   What a wonderful experience our brunch was. I read about this restaurant in a Garden and Gun magazine that showed up in my mailbox shortly after retiring down here. I can’t wait to make the 2 hour trip back for dinner sometime.

   First time dining at Holly Hill while meaning to try it for quite a while. Per usual with Chef Ouita’s restaurants, it was a wonderful experience! Highly recommend.

   Disclaimer. We are not fine dining experts. We are normal, middle-class Americans. This is based on the winter 2025 menu. The experience as a whole was amazing and enjoyable. Some of the food I wasn’t thrilled with, like the caviar being indistinguishable, atop a leek dip that was really strong; the ribeye wasn’t really marbled at all; the duck confit was tough and super salty; and the overall flavor profiles weren’t…thrilling. However, bits and pieces of dishes like the sweet potatoes with my duck breast and the sauce were really good and flavorful, and the in-betweens like the amuse bouche pastry and the cranberry sorbet were really good. The service was PHENOMENAL. Our main server was Alicia, but all the staff made an appearance at the table to help out. She was wonderful. Everyone was professional and kind and expedient with all courses and cleanup and treated us plebeians wonderfully. They kept our waters full and were amiable in conversation and demeanor. The atmosphere was very serene and relaxed. There wasn’t a whole lot of noise, and the small number of tables per room made it feel fairly intimate. It was a wonderful experience that I would definitely like to do again, but I would try different dishes when I go back.

   Dining at Holly Hill always is a special experience for us. Something to be anticipated. We have dined here many times over the years, both for dinner and brunch. Occasion this time was wife’s birthday. Previous visit was for our anniversary. Have never been disappointed.

    I upgraded my sirloin to the dry aged ribeye for an extra $25. The quality of the steak I received was on a level below what I would expect at Texas Road House. If I had not been with several family members I would have sent it back. I did not want to spoil the mood but honestly this was so disappointing I will never go back. The Zuppa di Napoli was very good as were the sides that went with the fatty, somewhat chewy, steak. The server began clearing the table while one guest was still about 2/3 done. That should never happen at this level of dining. Again, maybe at an average restaurant, but not here. Total for four was $365, not including drinks or tip. I suggest Merrick Inn as an alternative for local Kentucky fine dining.
