Gary and Mike Holzapfel, father and son, are the owners of Hozy's Grill. The restaurant is named after Gary's dad, whose friends called him Hozy, who was a great chef. Gary is an excellent cook and his friends told him he should open a restaurant and share his wonderful recipes. The restaurant is located in an industrial park in front of ARP (Automotive Racing Products), a fastener manufacturer for the auto/boat/plane industry, which is owned and managed by Gary and Mike. Hozy's Grill uses local fruit and vegetables and USDA prime meats. It has a Best of Award of Excellence from the Wine Spectator for it's superb wine list. Most of the food is homemade, including daily soups, chile verde and yummy desserts.

Always an amazing meal! Had the chef’s special short rib taquitos appetizer and the fried chicken for dinner.

Food here is excellent, as is the service. Value is excellent considering quality and portion! Make a reservation if you want a booth or you will not get one...cocktails were good and wine prices fair--this is a favorite when I visit family in Oxnard.

Yummy food and nice waitstaff, but d*mn, if you’re not an exclusive regular (I’m unsure what the qualifications are for this club, I’ve been there 5+ times and I’m not in it), you don’t get seated at your reservation time, you don’t receive timely service, your food comes out last... we had a 7:30 res for 2, we ordered 2 appetizers, one shared entree, 1 bottle of wine. We arrived at 7:30, a booth was cleared for us, but after 15 minutes at the host stand, looking at our cleared booth for 12min, I had to ask if we could sit down. We were told sure, they just have to set up the table for us— all that was added to the table was app plates and silverware. At the table, Service was sweet, but spotty. We didn’t get our check until 9:40, 15 minutes after our plates had been cleared. We could see the whole restaurant from our booth— multiple larger groups who arrived after us received excellent and timely service, lots of personal conversations with waitstaff, ate, paid and left before we received our shared entree. Patrons and staff were gathered at the host stand chatting and blocking kitchen access, which is maddening to watch while growing more hangry waiting for an empty table to be set, or for apps, or for ordering dinner. It’s just crazy to me. This place could be so much more if it committed itself to excellent service for ALL patrons. Rant over, but jeeze. It wouldn’t take a lot to make customers feel less excluded.

We had a wonderful dinner, the staff was so helpful. There was a problem with our reservation and they put us at the bar with a drink and some bread while they worked it all out perfectly! I had the prime rib with a wedge salad the meat was seasoned perfectly. My husband had the special Wagu beef with the clam chowder he loved it. We will definitely be back!

The food was amazing.! I brought me staff to Hozy’s for our company Christmas dinner. The experience was NOT what I was hoping for. They were out of Prime Rib which we came there to try on a recommendation. Another item in the menu and the cobbler desert. It was only 7pm when we arrived for our reservation. The waitress that served our table that night was very inattentive. We had a reservation. Our table was not set up. Once we were seated it took a good 30min for our waitress to send someone over to bring the rest of our table settings and bring the wine we has ordered when she sat set hello after the hostess seated us. I observed the other server Nd she was very attentive to her tables. No other tables were left unattended but ours. Our waitress only attended to our table after I grabbed her attention and insisted on the bottle of wine we ordered 30min early and complained. I tipped 20% only because it’s the Christmas season, not because of her service. It was very poor.
