Il Leone exists as an outstanding Italian Restaurant & Bar — comfortably perched on an iconic historic spot on the Byram River in Greenwich, CT but it also occupies a space in your mind. Il Leone Italian Restaurant & Bar is Ron Rosa’s second restaurant in Greenwich, CT. The owner of Polpo Restaurant since 2000, Ron Rosa, is from Calabria, Italy and has an international flair for elegant cuisine. Ron grew up in Brooklyn, New York where he studied engineering. His first restaurant experience was a manager at the one and only Copacabana in Manhattan, and then became maitre d’ at the El Morocco. Years later he traveled back to New York City and opened several restaurants. Ron became famous for Campagnola on the Upper East Side, and Ecco in Tribeca. Polpo, Ron’s first restaurant in Greenwich, has become a fixture among Italian restaurants in the Tri State area due to its superb cuisine, exceptional staff and elegant ambience. Il Leone is primed to follow in its sibling’s footsteps.

Showed up for reservation and restaurant was closed for repairs. Clearly they did not bother to call those of us who had reservations and post nothing on their website about being closed.

We had a wonderful time. The view ams service was very good. We shared the calamari and clams oreganata which were very good. My shrimp cocktail was plentiful, served on a chilled silver platter. I recommend the Branzino if you are looking for something light. Overall we had a good time and would return.

We were at Le Leone on a quiet Monday night, and sometimes I find restaurants do not perform as well on quiet nights when they are not fully staffed. But Le Leone was as good as ever. The service was excellent and the food was - well it is the best Italian cooking around. Beautiful outdoor seating by a waterfall too. A perfect evening.

Such a hidden gem! Food is excellent. Sit outside if you can because the gardens and views are very charming. Will definitely be back.

This was our second time and will probably be our last. Too bad, as the food is pretty good and I know it gets a regular crowd-maybe that is why we were dismissed by the head waiter and ignored by everyone else (except the greeter, who was very attentive when we arrived, and apologetic when we left). From arguing about the non-alcoholic beer selection to NO ONE checking on us during dinner-no water refills, no offer for another drink or glass of wine, and having to get up and ask for bill from said greeter, we were barely acknowledged from the moment we arrived until we had to beg for the check. An overhead light aimed at our table kept randomly going on and off throughout the meal and when asked, they said nothing could be done. We were nicely dressed and had our adult son with us, so we fit in fine otherwise. I give up.

If you are looking for a gorgeous location that could be on the Italian coast, fantastic food, impeccable service and lovely fellows patrons, then Il Leone is your place! They have an extensive menu as well as specials, ranging from pizzas to entrees. I could make a meal from sampling appetizers, but we decided to try several and share. Save room for dessert, because their choices are not an after thought. Unlike Greenwich Avenue where parking can be tricky, they have valet parking as well. Il Leone fits our definition of perfect!
