Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, il Carciofo is a Roman Italian restaurant drawing inspiration from the restaurants and markets in one of Chef Joe's favorite cities, Rome.     Was seated promptly. Later reservation but the restaurant was still relatively crowded. First course we had the Calamari and Ragu. Calamari was a stand out dish. We enjoyed the pesto gnocchi and Pork Brodo for mains. We were mistakenly sent the steak instead of the pork. Was promptly replaced but were given the steak while we waited on the pork. Steak was odd. Fish sauce and Honey made for a very sweet dish. Kinda threw us off, but the steak was perfectly cooked. The flavor profiles were just a bit strange. The Pork was fantastic with a very nice crust on the exterior. Beautiful sauce as well. Side of the potatoes was superb. Left full and satisfied. Service was average but prompt. A couple of mistakes throughout were noticeable. Steak as noted before, as well as a wrong drink order. Table was poorly cleaned before we were seated with several leftover spots of sauce and miscellaneous food marks. Clearing+resetting was prompt and efficient. Will return.

    Amazing vibes, amazing dishes, and top notch service. We honestly weren’t surprised by this but are always highly impressed by the level of perfection at Chef Joe’s restaurants. He even stopped by our table to say hello! We’re already planning our next dinner date. A MUST!

    I recently dined at Il Carciofo during its first week of opening, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. We had our sights set on a $140 bottle of wine, only to be informed that it was sold out. Instead, our server suggested a $275 bottle, which felt more like an upsell than a genuine recommendation. This kind of approach is simply not acceptable, especially for a restaurant that should be focused on providing a welcoming experience to its guests. As for the food, it was average at best. I expected more given the hype surrounding the opening, but the dishes lacked the creativity and flavor I had hoped for. To top it all off, the service was horrendous. Our server seemed overwhelmed and inattentive, which added to the overall underwhelming atmosphere of the place. The decor and space itself left much to be desired, feeling neither inviting nor unique. Overall, Il Carciofo fell short of expectations. I left feeling disappointed and unlikely to return anytime soon.     You’d have never known it was opening weekend! Everything ran seamlessly! The food was amazing and our server gave us the best recommendations. I can’t wait to come back and try more of the dishes.

    For a first Saturday night service, you sure couldn’t tell. Biggest takeaway after the food was definitely the hospitality. Friendly host stand upon entering and throughout the evening the service team made sure to acknowledge guests as they were walking to their tables or headed out the door. Great recommendations from our server and the bar team delivered on the beverages, no proof included.
