Iris is named for the celebrated Mediterranean flower, and as a gentle nod to the “Evil Eye”, a regional legend known to ward off evil and bring great luck. Located in an iconic building of Midtown Manhattan, Iris is a restaurant that aims to showcase the best preparations of the Eastern Mediterranean region. The ambition behind this culinary initiative is to focus on the style of eating rather than the provenance of each dish. Approachable, wholesome and minimally manipulated, the cuisine will show another facet of the ingredient-forward cuisine that has built John Fraser’s reputation.

    Our waitress, Alicia, was amazing. She was attentive, engaging and provided insightful recommendations. She helped us get done with our meal in plenty of time to make it to our play. Our meals were delicious, too. We definitely want to come back again next time we visit NYC.

    The lamb flatbread was delicious and the branzino perfectly prepared. We enjoyed the spectacular service, the immaculate surroundings, the cocktails and everything we consumed was fabulous.

    When we arrived for our confirmed 1:00 reservation they told us they couldn’t seat us because they now had to close the kitchen for a private event. We agreed to eat just appetizers so we could stay, as we didn’t have time to search for a new restaurant. If they had called the day before — or even that morning—to let us know it would have been fine. You can’t spring this on a party of 4 when they arrive. Appetizers were ok.

    The maitre d' warmly welcomed us and set the vibe for the evening. The waiter was so attentive to our choices and the dinner and dessert were delicious. Lots of people in IRIS having a great time. Wonderful way to spend an evening.

    Iris was stellar tonight, as always. The octopus and the trahana tots were our faves. Shout out to the servers and bartenders. We always love coming here before a show or event. Reliably terrific in every way, Iris is the perfect Manhattan restaurant.
