Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Jamavar offers a delightful Indian culinary experience in London, with "simply the best Indian food" and "incredible service." Diners rave about the lamb chops, prawns, and butter chicken. The ambiance is "beautiful," and the staff is attentive. While some find it pricey, the quality of food and service often justifies the cost for many.

I had asked for a small cake to celebrate our special day , instead I got a call from the restaurant stating they do not have cakes but if we order some sweet dish they will get a candle along. Though we ordered the sweet there was no sign of candle or even a wish from the staff to make it special for us . Very disappointing .

Great food and atmosphere. We booked a table for 6 at 1945 but were being ushered out of the restaurant at circa 930 because they had another booking. It’s a shame this wasn’t made clear when we booked.

Jamaval is one the restaurants that generated positive publicity, thanks to Michelin guide and good quality food. The overall change in British post-Brexit society also left its toll on Jamaval. Yes, food is well executed. Is it exciting ? Not for those who are familiar with world-cuisines and cook themselves. Service is giving their best but again, post Brexit and post pandemic Britain is a landscape of good intentions without experience. This is felt even more in restaurants with a higher price tag. Pleasantness is present, but professional know-how not. The ambience is a mirror of Mount Street of today. Inside, whole families sit in their puffer jackets, hats on their heads, whilst everyone is scrolling down and down the rabbit hole of social media. Food is gobbled down rather than enjoyed through means of table manners. "Fancy McDonald's", came to mind when entering the etablissement. I am not addressing the ratio between portions and prices as Mount street in 2024 feels like different continent and the prices are a clear reflection of this. Hence the price range is a given. All in all, the original idea is great, however the experience for me, who does not sit in a puffer jacket in a Michelin star restaurant and needs TikTok for starter, main course and desert is not the right one.

Although I had booked for 5 people we ended up with 6 and they were able to accommodate us. While the reservation team were adamant they could not fit 6 people, the team at the tables downstairs were very helpful. Food as usual was excellent and service was impeccable.

Delicious food and very good experience once in the restaurant. However, the reservation team is very rude and unhelpful. I booked via opentable then called the restaurant to inform we have an 18month year old child and therefore need space for a pram. They do not allow prams for health and safety reasons. I can accept that but it wasn’t on opentable and they can’t guarantee they will be able to hold the pram in the vestiaire as it’s very small... I even asked if we could have the private dining room I’d be happy to pay for but no, it’s not possible because of health and safety (it seats 8 and we were 5. Remove a chair and there you go…but she refused to be helpful or find a solution) All the reservation woman was telling me in a very rude and condescending way was that “it’s all over our website and all over opentable”. I said I might need to cancel as I didn’t know thius. She then said she would charge me a cancellation fee on £250. It is not written on opentable. It is only mentioned once you receive a confirmation and you have to look for that information. Just for this horrible experience with the reservation person, I am not sure I will ever come back. Worst customer service ever and really disappointing. She let the whole team and restaurant down. She doesn’t belong in the service industry.

BEST Indian food we’ve ever had in an elegant restaurant! “Jamavar” is the only word my husband will ever have to say to lure me back to London!

At first walking in, I was just slightly underwhelmed. We had a less than ideal table squished in the corner near the servers station. But, we weren’t that fussy. Music was good and decor is very nice. I would say that downstairs is a bit “cozier” if coming with a small group, but upstairs is a really nice space. Our server was excellent, he took great care of us. The food was delicious and ingredients were top quality. Didn’t have the set menu, we wanted something simple and so went a la carte - highly recommend the lamb chops from the tandoor. Pricey but to die for. Butter chicken was excellent but an oddly small portion of chicken considering how much lamb was in the biryani - which could’ve fed a small town. Highly recommend for a tasty Indian dinner in a beautiful space.

Thought the food was delicious but presentation didn't feel very 'Michelin starred' given how expensive the food was. The wine list seemed limited to very expensive wines too. In terms of service, everyone was friendly and helpful but when you're paying well over a thousand pounds for a meal for 4 people you don't expect the lit candle to be taken from your table when you're still waiting for an end of meal round of drinks and to feel like they're trying to get rid of you.

Food was nice, great ambience, good service. I was surprised and disappointed to see 3.5% service charge and a 10% cover charge on the bill. I would have preferred all 13.5% go to service and the money go the staff.

We celebrated our 25th anniversary; and loved the pampering by our host “Kharak Singh”. Each item on the menu was unique yet simple. We ordered Kashundi paneer, aloo tikki and goat shami kebab; each item had special flavors that simply burst on your mouth. The main course was a Nalli biryani with Jamvar daal and Sindhi ghost; again mouth watering. Lovely experience in a soft, warm and elegantly done up ambience.
