   I live a couple of blocks away and have been meaning to try out Jax. Amazing ambiance and great food! Portions were just right and the seafood tasted very fresh (especially for a land locked state). The service, however, fell a bit short. Long wait times and multiple staff members tending to us but in a disorganized fashion. It took us an hour and a half for our main meal. I believe the price range of this restaurant should also reflect in the service as it did the food. If you’re not in a rush, give this place a try! I would like to try this place for HH as other reviews recommend.

   I love this place but it has changed. Menu prices have gone up considerably and for small amounts. 2 people last night we spent $200😳😳. They also place a 20% tip automatically. When did tipping for quality service not become based on service at the end of the meal? We were then told any extra tip would go just to our server!!! Extra tip? Our food was forgotten to be put into the kitchen. Took 30 minutes to get our food. I am sad because this place is a great downtown eatery.

Please respond to me privately! We do implement a 20% Service Charge on all guest checks. This is split amongst the team. It is never expected for anyone to tip on top of the service charge!    Good and drinks were great but the best part was out waitress Clare. She helped my wife with all the choices that were gluten free.

   Excellent sea food. We had oysters, hush puppies and crab fried rice. All were very good and not just your standard fair. Fried rice was spicy and yet not so much so that you couldn't taste the crab. The hush puppies were nice a crunch served on a bed of a sweet and soar sauce - very good. The oysters were roasted topped with herbs and spices. All was very good. We will be returning!

   It was all good, but the service could have been better. The waiter was forgetful and not very keen, and in the end, you got the check with 20% included. Not cool. Update. Fascinating response, Ryan, Assistant General Manager. Do you really think reading your essay about how attentive I should be to your service charge throughout the dining experience with you will make me more friendly towards the restaurant? Nice approach; keep up the same way. Call you—of course, I’d like to spend my time with you so desperately.

   The 20% service charge mentioned at the end of dinner is BS. Your food is great, raise your prices, don’t do this woke BS. Water Grill next door is as good without the service charge. Total miss management.

    I recently dined at Jax for my wife's birthday, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. We made a reservation three days in advance, and while I initially appreciated the availability, I soon realized why there were so many open time slots. Upon being seated, our waiter approached us within two minutes to say he’d be back shortly to take our drink orders. However, it took him over five minutes to return, despite the restaurant being noticeably quiet, with many open tables and only a handful of patrons at the bar. We ordered a bottle of chilled white wine, an appetizer, and two entrées. The wine was brought promptly, poured into glasses, and the waiter asked if we’d like a wine chiller. Naturally, we agreed. However, it wasn’t delivered until we reminded him about it, long after the wine had been sitting at the table. The appetizer arrived about 10 minutes later, which seemed reasonable, but our entrées were brought out just two minutes after the appetizer. This left us feeling rushed and unable to enjoy the meal’s progression. During our meal, we ran out of water and had to request a refill. The waiter refilled my wife’s glass but only halfway. This small oversight added to the impression of inattentive service. A noticeable whiteboard at the host’s station indicated that a 20% gratuity would be added to all bills. Thankfully, I had been forewarned by our OpenTable reservation that this was optional and could be adjusted. Given the poor service, we requested that the gratuity be removed and instead left a 12% tip, along with a note on the receipt stating “poor service.” The overall experience was underwhelming, especially for a special occasion. The rushed pacing of the meal, lack of attentiveness, and inconsistent service overshadowed any potential the restaurant might have had. On a positive note, we salvaged the evening by heading to another restaurant down the street for dessert and after-dinner drinks, which were excellent.
