Jeju is a good enough restaurant in Portland but for the price you will find much better Korean food elsewhere. Waitstaff was friendly enough but nothing special.

Party of 4 here, 1st time for all of us. In a situation like that, I'd usually opt tasting menu, but we went a la carte and maybe overdid it a little. We did the entire banchan which was great, and converted one of our friends with the kimchi. The banchan highlight was the squash. We split the osso bucco ddebokki which was rich, and we cut a bao chopped beef into quarters. It comes with the thrice fried fries which are now my gold standard. We got the 21 day old dry aged ribeye, and I'm very glad we did. We loved all of the sauces but the kimchimichurri was the standout. And the side of champ potatoes, and the roasted cabbage with housemade pastrami! The steak needs no sauce though. We had a variety of cocktails, all executed beautifully, and then we sat trying to fight off the food coma while our server, Reagan (Ragan?), made a great argument for dessert. We split the meringue and had no regrets. Also the service was impeccable allowing for conversation, taking drink orders just as we were about to go dry, bussing and bringing fresh plates with no interruption, offering detailed suggestions when asked. We were guided well by Reagan. Atmosphere was cozy yet mildly bustling, good music that wasn't too loud. We had a very lovely couple of hours leisurely eating and conversing and being treated extremely well. Highly recommended.

The prix fix menu was just the right amount of food and the meats were all great. Staff is really friendly and seem like they genuinely want you to have a nice experience. This is good for groups or date nights.

I want to start this by saying the food was delicious, and I think our direct server was great. I notified the staff of an apple and pear allergy at the beginning of the meal. I asked specifically about the kimchi, since it is on a large portion of the tasting menu, which my suspicions were confirmed that there was apple/pear in the prep. We opted to go with some banchan, steak, osso bucco ddukboki, and 7 grain buttered rice. As plated were delivered, specifically the steak sauces, I asked the food runner if there was apple or pear in them. They asked the kitchen, and the kitchen gave a very vague answer and was unsure. I am quite disappointed that the staff at one of the more acclaimed and upscale restaurants in town can't answer and don't have at their disposal an ingredient list for such a consequential thing. The other thing that sucked is later that night I ended up dealing with said allergic reaction. Luckily this is not an epipen situation, but for others it may be. I hope for change within the restaurant to take allergens more seriously and be more explicit on explaining if there are said allergens being delivered to the table. I would not have posted this publicly, but I sent an unresponded to email about this (not looking for anything, just an acknowledgment of change) and have not heard back in days. Let this serve as a warning to those with food allergies that there could be an issue and think twice about this. For those without, it is delicious and I hope you enjoy the meal.

Jeju was delicious and unique; they offered a delightful Korean and Korean-adjacent spread at significant prices, but well worth the bill in my opinion. The food was a smash for me; we got the tasting menu and received a slew of small dishes in traditional style, able to supplement multiple courses with banchan. All the mains were delicious, especially the chef’s meat spread which changes up nightly. The dessert meringue was utterly unique and an instant favorite. The space was quite energetic and busy, lots of people dining and talking, but that added to the warm and welcoming vibe.

We really wanted to love Jeju, and went with a super positive attitude, very excited about the concept we had read about. Unfortunately, there is just no way to sugar coat it, it wasn't very good. We are in Korea often, including Jeju Island, but we understand Jeju Restaurant is not intended to be pure, traditional Korean, and that it is modern spin on that cuisine. That seemed like a great idea, and we were totally open to that. But whether judged by traditional standards, or modern fusion standards, nothing stood out, and some dishes were actively blah. Timing of the various dishes also was not great. Service was mediocre at best. Usually banchan are interesting, tasty and completely devoured, including with refills (free of course). Here, there is a charge for a small assortment of four banchan, and we did not even finish the small plates, two were just OK, and two we disliked. I wish we could make some positive recommendations, and our reviews are usually very positive, sorry.
