Joann’s Fine Foods is a lively Tex Mex Diner & Patio Restaurant located in the iconic Austin Motel, along busy South Congress. The vibe is laid back but bustling with comfortable indoor booths, shady patio seating and a popular palapa bar. The vintage diner has been restored and updated with mahogany wood paneling, Mid-century furniture and photos of famous Texans.

The menu features Tex Mex and diner classics cooked over our mesquite burning grill. Joann’s is perfect for brunch, lunch or a classic Austin dinner when strolling the iconic avenue. Favorites include Wood-Grilled Fajitas with tortillas made in-house daily, Joann’s Queso, Avocado & Tuna Tartare, Tacos and Quesadillas, Enchilada Plates and diner specialties including Stone Ground Blue Corn Pancakes, Patty Melt, and Club Sandwich.

The bar is stocked with an extensive tequila and mezcal selection and Joann’s serves one of Austin’s best frozen margaritas.

Went on Sunday for brunch with my son and I ordered huevos rancheros, eggs over medium. We waited for about 45 minutes for our dishes and I noticed there were no eggs on my dish. I looked in case I was just not seeing them under the salsa, but nope, no eggs. The waitress apologized and took my dish and said she would bring my correct order. About 30 minutes later, my son had finished eating and I was tired of sitting there in the hot patio. Manager never came by and the waitress said they'd take care of my sons meal and we just had to pay for the drinks. We left and I picked up breakfast tacos somewhere else. Horrible service, cramped tables, can't tell ya about the food cuz I never got any.

We enjoyed a great breakfast at Joann's. Our server Maddie was attentive and pleasant. The breakfast sandwich and bowl were both great. Mimosas came just the way we wanted them. Looking forward to coming back soon!

The food and service were awesome. The ambiance is diner/SoCo groove/TexMex and was raucous (a little too loud for my 83 year old mom) and we got unlucky with our table which was right by the front door but all the other good stuff made up for it. Will go back again and again.

It’s a great location and I loved the furniture and the set up on the patio. I would love to see the furniture fixed up a little. We had a lovely server who was missing for a bit which we think was because she had a large party elsewhere. She came back finally and was great! She took good care of us. The food is an interesting mix of diner and Mexican food . The 4 some had a salad, beef enchiladas, the club sandwich and the shrimp tacos. I think we were all pretty happy. It’s a bit expensive for “diner” food but everything seems too expensive these days. I would definitely go back .

We enjoyed Joann’s the first day of our visit to Austin and went a second time too! Loved the variety and quality of the food and friendly staff!

Great food! Highly recommend the ceviche if you like a little spice and the beef fajitas! So good. Can’t wait to be back.
