   The executive chef tasting menu is surprisingly superior in quality and inventiveness. Joni is the dark horse of the Toronto restaurant scene.

   We regularly visit Joni and are always treated to a great gourmet experience. The steak tartar is a favorite of mine and the duck breast on the menu currently is spectacular. The restaurant has redesigned to become more intimate and welcoming and has live music now most nights which is not intrusive but adds to the ambiance. The service we receive is always great - special mention to Kozi and Akil - long-time staff who are knowledgeable and provide seamless service. We were given a sneak peak at the new menu coming January 23 and it looks amazing - we will be back to try it.

   Amazing food. Great service. Try the cauliflower soup! Would go back again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

   From appetizers to dessert, the tasting menu from Joni restaurant exceeded our expectations! The food was delicious and the presentation of the food is beautiful. The portion size is just right for us. The staff was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is quiet and comfortable. We can’t wait to come back again!

   We reserved Joni restaurant for a New Year’s Eve experience, and while the staff were amazing and the food quality was very good, a few major issues left me disappointed, which is why I’m giving only two stars. Let me explain why. First, even the staff seemed unsure whether there would be a countdown or not. To my surprise, there wasn’t one! I can’t imagine celebrating New Year’s Eve at a restaurant without a countdown it’s such a basic part of the experience. Second, the music performers were a letdown. While they played classical music, it was very dull and hard to hear, leaving the atmosphere flat and unengaging. It also seemed like the restaurant was inexperienced in hosting special occasions. The overall organization was weak food arrived late (though they did apologize), and the entire event felt poorly planned. Compared to last year when I booked Amal restaurant, where everything was included (even the tip), Joni charged separately for the tip and didn’t have any cash available for change, which was inconvenient. While the food and staff were commendable, the overall experience fell far below expectations. The lack of planning, dull atmosphere, and poor management made it a disappointing evening. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.
