Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.

As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.

The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

Prices are high. Food was very good, but served warm, not hot. Should be able to slit ticket as ordered, not equally, no matter who ordered what! Have never experienced this , anywhere.

Unbelievable food and service. I actually live in a foodie town in Kentucky and I haven’t had food this good in a long time. Bravo!! The chicken with yogurt is unbelievable and the steak is off the charts.

What a great experience! My friend has a limited pallet. When we got there the selections were not of his liking. Angelia the waitress and I take about what maybe could help. She and the rest of the staff were very accommodating and adjusted a dish to suit his pallet. When the dishes came out, I have to say the mouth started watering. The salad was the best I've ever had in my life!! The schnitzel i had was delicious with hints of fennel in the breading. They offered dessert but there was no room. I recommend this place highly!!! CIA chef ran IYKYK!!

I loved Judith. Amazing food. Hard to believe it is very comparable to a nice restaurant in a city. We had delicious food - oysters, caesar salad, celery/apple salad, pasta with mushroom sauce, and burgers. The cocktails were nice, especially the Blindfold & A Light. Cannot wait to return!

This is a wonderful restaurant, easily the best restaurant for high end dining. A great place to start you evening when attending a show at the nearby Caverns ( about 30 minutes away). I cannot say enough about our experience.

What a wonderful restaurant! The pappardelle in mushroom cream sauce was incredible, as was the banoffee pie!

Food was well presented and tasty. Service was excellent. Wine list with cheapest wine at $75 was too expensive.

The food -- chicken liver mousse and raw oyster appetizers, schnitzel and steak main courses -- was excellent. The schnitzel was an especially generous serving with crisp breading and slightly tangy seasoning (mustard?). The service had a couple of wrinkles: I asked for a virgin Mary, if that was available, or soda and lime, if not. The delicious virgin Mary was served right away, and then I was also served sparkling water (not seltzer as expected) with a slice of lime. I had earlier asked for the mousse, but was initially served the trout rillette. That mistake was promptly corrected. I was charged for the inaccurate water but not the rillette. I probably could have refused the mistaken water, but chose not to challenge two missteps, just one. Despite the mix-up, service was efficient, appropriately attentive, even cordial without being too chatty. For my ears, the room was very noisy which made conversation somewhat strained -- but I have that issue almost everywhere if the room is busy. I look forward to trying other menu items, and I hope the menu will change, perhaps seasonally. A good cheese plate for ending the meal, especially given that Sewanee has such superb local cheeses, would be a most welcome way to end a meal at Judith. A bit of Sequatchie Bleu and slices of fresh pear would have made a very fine meal nearly perfect.
