Where the name itself encapsulates the essence of storytelling in Hindi. with our unconventional approach, we handpick select regions and their dishes, each representing a unique chapter in India's culinary narrative. authenticity takes center stage here & we take great pride in presenting you with genuine flavors and traditional recipes.

Kahaani is the sort of venue where you could order butter chicken, but you probably shouldn't order butter chicken. No one's going to raise any eyebrows if you do, but you'd be missing out on some of the treasures that lie deeper into the menu.

Kahaani itself is classic Lygon: a long, narrow dining hall, with funky industrial lighting and exposed brick down one side. The front window opens out onto the street, letting the breeze and Lygon nightlife waft in.

It’s Indian food done a bit differently and it tastes great. The wait staff were great. They took time to discuss Kahaani’s dishes, how they were different, and help with suggestions. We chose the Make My Feast Banquet option that allowed us to sample the menu and at $57 pp was great value. We were not disappointed in any of the dishes. My personal favourites were the Daal Pakwaan and the Parda Biryani. I’m looking forward to our next visit.

We love going to Kahaani and introducing our friends to the wonderful food. It is so different to most of the food at other Indian Restaurants. The variety of the food from the different regions makes for a very enjoyable food experience

Amazing Indian food in a very delightful ambience. Everything is great but the price vs quantity of food items and drinks. Very expensive or very low quality for the price paid paid. Average dish or drink price is about approx. AUD 25; we paid AUD 250 for 3 people with 2 drinks and 4 dishes; extra charges for card payment.

Amazing food and great ambience, but let down by a useless waitress. We assume the restaurant had staffed the B Team as it was a Monday and very quiet but my goodness, she really let down the whole experience. I'd probably order takeaway, but wouldn't return to dine in unless the service quality was notably different.

Hi Kahani team, We came back yesterday with our friends after a wonderful first time at Kahani on Aug this year. However we were disappointed with the food yesterday. Ordered a range of items, the most disappointing one was Chicken Biryani. Food overall was not up to standard. We hope you'll continue to maintain the high food standards that drew us in initially.

This was a case of good food, however, was let down by slow service. They also didn’t bring meals out together.

Along with super expensive curries and breads the portion of starters was too small (for the price) and charged us $9 for a glass (not bottle) of sparkling water

What a great find. Everything you want in a restaurant. Service exceptional. Food presentation and taste was just so great. I would recommend this surprising restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food
