   I had made dinner reservation for last Friday at Palo Alto Khazana indicating that the occasion was my birthday. When we dined, neither was this acknowledged with wishes not was I offered a complimentary treat that is typically done in other restaurants. For a high-end and pricey restaurant I would have expected this basic courtesy. It was my special day and I had many other options to celebrated but I chose them. When I brought this up with the lady at the reception after dinner and while leaving, she seemed apologetic and offered to make amends and do better next time. The manager though didn't demonstrate any remorse. She had a 'yes-it-happened-but-can-we-move-on attitude offering a discount next time. When I said I may not be back, she just sighed and left. The service and hospitality lacked warmth. Food was okay but not matching the price. Definitely it was many levels lower than their other Bay Area one, Santa Clara Yellow Chilli. I was reviewing the reviews of last week and observed ratings had gone down drastically with many negative feedback. So there's something to be analyzed and attended by the management. I'm a big fan of Chef Kapoor's cheerful shows and delectable recipes and this experience was disappointing and left a sour taste.

   Excellent Indian food. All the dishes we ordered were lovely both in taste and to look at. Closer to authentic Indian food than other restaurants in the neighborhood.

   We were really enjoyed the decor and ambience of Khazana. The food was good for the most part, some items better than others, however, the main items were good. It lacked a bit of depth or flavors and didn't feel unique or special, as I would expect at that price point. There was plenty of waitstaff, however, very little interaction with us. A few dishes needed some explanation, as we didn't know what they were and there was no offering or concern for us other than taking an order and delivering. Not a great overall experience with regard to overall feel. This is a restaurant that needs someone to asking if there are questions about the menu, etc. Otherwise, lovely atmosphere and good food.

   Khazana by Sanjeev Kapoor comes with a lot of expectations. Unfortunately, my recent visit to the restaurant left me with mixed feelings. The staff were polite and prompt.The food was very basic, lacked the flavors. Service was not bad. For the premium price point, the food did not justify the cost. While the portions were okay, the flavors and presentation didn’t leave a lasting impression. Restaurant seems to rely heavily on its brand name rather than delivering the exceptional culinary experience one would expect. It’s not a bad choice if you’re nearby and craving Indian food, but it doesn’t live up to the hype or price tag. Would I return? Probably not, unless there is significant revamp in menu or execution.

   We were delighted with our dining experience at Khazana. We are avoiding carbs so ordered dishes that focused on meat and vegetables: Peanut slaw (delicious, crunchy and fresh!), chickpea fritters (4 per order - delicious with great chutney sauce); Eggplant bharga? Not sure the name but the preparation and sauce were incredible and not bitter or too smokey) and the fish tikka masala - absolutely fabulous. . Only gave 3 stars for service because no one waited on us for about 10 minutes after arriving. But once they attended us the service was excellent. Appreciate that we could sample the wines available by the glass to decide. Hope they will consider adding Belgian style triples and golden ales (Like Pranqster) to their extensive beer menu which go great with Indian food. Sadly the beer menu was focused on hoppy, bitter IPAs and lagers. The cocktail flavors were exotic and fun (loved the Saffron Negroni). Will definitely come back to try more of the menu.

   Review for Khazana I had high hopes for Khazana, but my experience was disappointing. The food was far from what I expected—it lacked flavor and freshness. Surprisingly, even the waiter seemed to acknowledge the shortcomings. At one point, he casually suggested I might enjoy dining at another restaurant instead (E***n in Palo Alto) 😉While the ambiance was decent, it couldn’t make up for the poor service and subpar cuisine. I don’t plan on returning, and I can’t recommend it to others either.

    Papaddum was moist and they just refried it even after asking them to replace. Food is average for the price and options are very few to choose from. Menu was confusing for main course.
