Was curious to try out Komo since it’s the newest restaurant in Wailea. Started off with the miso soup; unique flavor and different from others I’ve had elsewhere. Vegetables in the soup were cooked nicely.
Tried the duck tsukune next. Best way to describe or compare it to was a duck meatball. Wasn’t gamey at all but the added foie gras seemed a little underwhelming or just didn’t have as much of a presence; I wouldn’t have known there was foie gras without reading its description.
Asked the host prior to seating what the most popular item was and he recommended the Mystery Box, a 10 piece nigiri set done omakase style with it being chefs choice of cuts to send. The nigiri were beautiful and the fish tasted fresh and clean. Komo’s house-made soy sauce was also really nice and not as salty as other soy sauces.
Ended the night with desserts; ordered the Hoseki Baki Jewel Box. Presented in a glass (maybe plastic?) see through box, 4 mini desserts laid inside. Contained Matcha Raspberry Roulade, Hibiki Chocolate Torte, Strawberry Sake Cheesecake, Yuzu Cremeux Tart. All of the desserts were wonderful flavor and texture wise. Although they may look small, the Jewel Box was enough for the 2 of us.
