Edinburgh’s first gourmet steak restaurant, Kyloe Restaurant and Grill is found within The Rutland Hotel in the city’s West End, complete with castle views. Kyloe is an old Scots word for Highland cattle, chosen to represent the strength and versatility of the restaurant’s main event. Supplied by Scotland’s top farms, the Kyloe Restaurant and Grill uses cuts from pedigree Aberdeen Angus, taking provenance, rigorous approaches to breeding and handling and heritage seriously in order to bring customers the ultimate steak dining experience. Kyloe’s award winning head chef John Rutter uses a selection of traditional cuts as well as some more unusual cuts chosen for texture and flavour in an innovative grill menu while his a la carte features seasonal Scottish produce simply prepared to produce compelling dishes. Rutter's creations are complemented by the works of in house pastry chef Amanda Jordan and a unique and interesting wine list sourced through a number of merchants.

Food was excellent and the service was outstanding. When we are back in Edinburgh we will be definitely be going again

Will never recommend this place. The previous reviewer is correct. The steak we ordered is bone in ribeye. Gourmet steak house, this is not it. The beef is taste less and not cooked evenly.

The ribeye I had really wasn't good. I ordered medium rare and it arrived medium. A steak house that can't cook steak properly is a bit of a contradiction. Service was extremely slow despite being a relatively quiet Monday night. The place is a bit run down and has seen much better days. Overall, it's a pass for me

Second year running myself and my partner have spent our Valentines evening with Kyloe, and all I can say is the service, quality and food has not differed. Outstanding food and customer service. We have been treat like the only people in the room on both occasions and the experience has never faulted. Thank you for the most gorgeous food and customer service, needless to say we will be returning next Valentine’s Day.

Confession - Im not a huge steak fan but have tolerated more than a few steak restaurants in my life, since my husband loves it. This was simply the best steak meal I have ever had. Cooked to perfection, divine sauce (red wine and blue cheese, fries and green beans that were the best I’ve ever tasted. I couldn’t fault a thing.. Staff were great, amusing and we felt ……..honest about the steak cuts. Not too much information - just enough to feel you were making an informed choice,. And the choosing of you steak knife was novel. Not cheap but a lovely place for a special meal, quality ingredients, expertly prepared. Next time my husband wants a steak restaurant, I know where I’ll be wanting to go. Thank you Kyloe!

Thank you for a wonderful Valentines meal the food and service was 10/10 Gary was a brilliant waiter. Probably the best Steaks I have ever tasted and the battered onion was unique and tasty. Well done team Kyloe and thank you for my Moscow mule in a traditional copper cup.
