About this restaurant

  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
La Palombe is a new neighbourhood bistro from restaurateur James Chiavarini (also of Il Portico) & chef patron Jake Leach (previously head chef at the three Michelin starred The Ledbury).

A large wood burning grill takes center stage where the majority of the dishes are cooked over live embers. James & Jake work together every shift to serve dishes with a real sense of terroir and provenance, including our speciality of wild foods foraged ourselves. Expect wild noisette venison, Wiltshire truffles (thanks to our house truffle dog Alba!), rare woodland mushrooms, and much wonderful produce from our small organic farm in Kent.

The wine list is sourced entirely from independent producers, and regularly updated with a specialised focus on low intervention, natural and biodynamic wines.

We are across the road to the Design Museum & Holland Park, a 10 minute walk from Kensington Olympia and a short distance to the Royal Albert Hall.

Outstanding food and exemplary service. There’s a fine line between attentive and intrusive, but James and his team strike the perfect balance, which makes for a very pleasurable, unhurried and welcoming dining experience. My friend had the octopus starter and monkfish main. I had the wild mushroom and garlic starter and mushroom bourguignon main. The food was superb, unpretentious, yet had amazing depth of flavour. We finished with the honey bee tart and a madeleine- both were perfectly balanced, without being overly sweet. A thoroughly enjoyable meal and superb value for money, given the location, quality of ingredients and standard of cooking. I’m spoiled for choice working in the City and living between Highgate / Hampstead, but it was certainly worth the trip across town and I shall definitely be back.

This is a very friendly restaurant and we really appreciated the chef coming to speak to us. Although we’ve only been once before the manager recognised us and had a chat too. The food was excellent. We had a main and dessert each and both were very tasty and high quality. Starters are great but learning from last time we didn’t think we could manage 3 courses! We will definitely visit again.

Friendly welcome and good service. However ambience slightly lacking. Food oversalted and components of the courses we had didn’t quite gel. Paris Brest run of the mill. Seems like a restaurant which is trying hard but hasn’t quite got it right yet.

Really lovely little neighbourhood restaurant. We received a warm and friendly welcome and the staff were all really attentive. Our starters of garlic soup and octopus were outstanding, however the main courses left us both a little disappointed. Unlike the starters, which were flavoursome and authentic..both main course left us a little disappointed. Both mains, but especially the duck l’orange seemed just a bit too ‘parred back’ with three perfect tiny ovals of duck…and a small swathe of baked fennel. Both elements were delicious with the perfect sauce, but we craved the more authentic moorish presentation of the starters…and a little more on the plate! The chef is so very talented, it seems a shame that he felt the need to go down the laboured Michelin presentation route, which with his flavour skills isn’t necessary. All that said…delicious dessert and we will be back, but more duck please!
