Revered and acclaimed by Zagat, City Search and My Fox LA this lively 40 year old family owned French and American Bistro specializes in classics such as French Onion Soup, Escargot, Coq Au Vin, Beouf Borgignon, Filet Mignon, Steak Au Piovre and fresh seafood.

Our bar features a selection of signature Martini"s, champagne, artisinal beers and a fine selection of organic wine. You'll find the decor reminiscent of a quaint Parisian bistro; the wood fixtures, romantic lighting and ecclectic collection of art and mirrors evoke a French Bohemian flare, giving nothing less than a sense of true heart and soul by it's first and second generation owners.

Converse with your friends while listening to Edith Piaf, Frank Sinatra or a funky mix of International Beat. You'll find that customers here ask for their server by name, know the menu by heart and don't be surprised if you find the person you've been sipping wine with on the patio is one of the owners.

My friends and I agreed that 2018 would be the year of decadence for all of us, and La Poubelle was the place to make it happen. We tried the Hemingway cocktail, which was refreshing but also kicked you in the back of the throat. Aptly named. We also had the coq au vin, which was cooked to perfection. We did not need dessert but that didn’t stop us from trying the chocolate mousse. Decadence to the max! Our server was efficient and very nice. I love the chic but not too snobby atmosphere.

This place is not really meant for those looking for the best meal in their lives. Rather, order a glass of wine or cocktail, snack on some truffle fries, and you might notice a few recognizable faces enjoying a rambunctious conversation. Being next UCB, undoubtedly you might witness a familiar visage. The burger has flavor but is overly dense and dry. Short rib braise is a "don't even". The drinks are fine, I'd probably stick with your favorite red wine. The fries were good. Probably best to stick to the small plates and appetizers rather than going in for a fine french meal. The Bourgeois Pig is next store, their Buffy-ish vibe and mocha is a good way to have a dessert-like pick-me-up. TL;DR: come for the wine, the scene, the fries, the location next to UCB. Skip the entrees. Grab coffee next store.

I lived in Hollywood years ago and LOVED this place. It was so nice to be back years later and see that little had changed. It is still the warm, wonderful, lovely place to go for gorgeous food and welcoming ambiance. My only suggestion is to insure that Monday Happy Hour has house bubble available...second time you haven't had.. I can't order a bottle and return to work and driving....

I had a cocktail, salad, entree, coffee and dessert. When I requested bread I was told that there was a charge, but I ordered the bread ($3). I expected to be charged for coffee ($5), but was surprised to be charged the same for my second cup. Seems like "nickle and dime'ng".

I saw an episode of "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" on Food Network in which Curtis Stone said the Coq au Vin at La Poubelle was the best he had ever had. So, we made the rather long drive from the Beach Cities up to Hollywood thinking it must be worth the drive. It was not. My husband and I both had the Coq au Vin which was good, but certainly not great, and our guests had the mussels and French onion soup. One guest said the onion soup was uninspired and the other guest had 5 mussels in their dish that remained unopened. This doesn't speak well as to the freshness of the seafood. We wouldn't go back even if it was close to home.

It’s too dark. Literally. I can’t even see what I’m eating. They turned the lights down even more toward the end of my meal. Also, note to servers: I know your job sucks, but we don’t need to hear the dramatic banter between you all. It’s not what we’re paying for. Take it to the back. ;) Service was ok. Occasionally surly, but this is LA so I’m not sure they would even realize it. The food was decently prepared, enjoyable, and that’s why I’m giving it 3 stars.
