Review summary

Lady Camellia offers a charming tea experience with "best tea for 2 in town," delightful scones, and customizable menus featuring unique options like soufflés and English pot pies. The ambiance is beautifully quaint, perfect for special occasions. While some reviews mention service and acoustics needing improvement, overall, guests enjoy a memorable visit.

This is a really cute tea room. Very pretty decor and china. The service was above average. The server was attentive to our needs. The pastries were excellent especially the warm scones served with jam and clotted cream. The tea sandwiches were good but lacked creativity. We had chicken salad (excellent) cucumber, and roast beef. The beef could have had a little more meat in the sandwich. All of the sandwiches were served on whole wheat. All sandwiches were crustless finger shapes. The tea offerings were extensive but changing from one tea to another was not an option. I would recommend giving Lady Camellia a try if you are in Old Alexandria.

The food for the full afternoon tea was ok, have had better, tea was very good, but only one choice of tea, unlike other full afternoon teas I have enjoyed. The room was too small for the number of tables in it, tables were too close to each other, and the acoustics were horrible so our party of 3 could barely hear each other. An afternoon tea should be leisurely, a time to enjoy conversation without a lot of background noise. This venue didn’t meet even a minimal standard.

The food was good, but the experience was ruined for us by not being able to choose exactly what we wanted. When you have 4 people and 16 different little pastries you have to awkwardly negotiate over who gets what! This is no fun even if everyone tries to be polite. "You take the strawberry tartlet." "Oh no, you like strawberries, you can have it." In truth everybody would have liked it, but there was only one! Same awkwardness for the layer of sandwiches and the layer of croissant/scones. "How many sandwiches have you had?" "Hmm but there are only 3 left and we all think we get one more." We 4 were there last Christmastime when we all made our individual selections, so we were really looking forward to having specific things, and we thought we were paying for those things. The experience was also diminished by the inevitable (it seems) noisy table in the room.

It’s a nice tea service to go on a date. My wife wanted to go for her birthday and we had a great time. The tea was really good you can have as much as you want so pace yourself. The full tea service was good we had good sandwiches and pastry and dessert selections. I liked the location near the Potomac river. The service was excellent too we had a really good time.

We were visitors from Canada (UK born and raised). We love afternoon tea and have experienced it in different countries, including England. This was absolutely lovely! Wonderful sandwiches and a great selection of teas. And the service - wow! Our server was extremely attentive. Great ambience and a nice setting on the waterfront.
