Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar in Duluth, Minnesota has been around since 1991, back when Canal Park was better known as an industrial harbor rather than a tourist location. The interior at Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar has a cozy feel to it, thanks in large part to the reclaimed lumber used for the tables, booths and bar as well as thriving plants. When the weather is nice, you can dine on our deck, furnished with Loll patio furniture made locally.
We are a small restaurant, limited to 15 tables and 70 seats indoors. Because of this we are not able to accommodate groups larger than 8 people. If your party is larger than 8 people, please understand that your group may be split at separate tables, potentially not near each other. Please call us to discuss accommodating your large group events.
Due to the invariability of Duluth weather, our deck is non-reservable (with or without dogs) and subject to be closed without much notice. We seat the patio on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Outstanding as always. Lake A ensue is my go-to restaurant in Duluth where I take my dates and business contacts. A home run every time!

We made a NYE reservation here. We live locally and I have eaten here before. I checked on Open Table for any unusual rules and/or special offerings for NYE - other than some time limits (completely understandable) on the tables, there was nothing. I then went to Lake Ave. Restaurant's website to check for any NYE specials or special menus - nothing. Due to dietary restrictions, I made sure to check in advance that I could find a meal(s) that would meet my needs, and found that the dinner menu is well-marked for allergins. I thought we were all set. Wer arrived a little early for the reservation, and while waiting in the hall, we noticed that the menus were posted outside the door. Great! They are exactly the same as the menus online, but we review again just to be sure. After we are seated, we are informed for the first time that the only menu available is a pre-fixe menu, none of which is labeled with allergins. We ask about the cost - $90 PER PERSON. Of course, what I can actually eat on the menu is pretty sparse (and they had to find a dessert that I could even eat). But that really wasn't the worst - the worst was feeling tricked and trapped. Where else are we going to go and eat on NYE? Lake Ave Restaurant and Bar knew this. We weren't the only ones who got burned by this. Two tables got up and walked out, three more complained bitterly but had no place else to go. The icing on the cake?? The automatically added 20% gratuity that was on our tab with no advance warning. We spent $250 for 4 very small courses (of which I had nearly zero choices on), 2 drinks (one of which was a tap beer), and the forced gratuity. We won't be back.

Prompt and friendly service. My wife had the Red snapper and I had the duck, both were perfectly cooked. Would definitely recommend.!

One of my absolute favorite places in the Canal area of Duluth!!! Jon, Paul, Mark along with the entire staff always go above and beyond to make dining here a memorable and tasty experience!!!

The food was wonderful. Salmon and red snapper was great. Angry carbonara was very spicy but very good. The waitress was kind an attentive but not too attentive. Overall it was very good.

We try to dine at the Lake Avenue Cafe every time we are in Duluth as it never disappoints. Last night we had the calamari appetizer and it was outstanding

Amazing service-very informative about the menu and suggestions. The food was delicious. Had the steak salad which was so flavorable, Mac and cheese was comfort food for sure and bread pudding was to die for. You can’t go wrong with this place. It is one of our favorite stops to celebrate a special birthday.

This is one of our must stop restaurants when visiting Duluth. Unfortunately this time was just ok. We both ordered the venison ramen and were equally disappointed. The flavor was just so so. This one experience certainly won’t detract us from returning.

Waitress never showed us the HH menu. We missed out on a $10 bottle of wine. Mention to the waitress after we heard about from 2 tables next to us and all she said was “sorry about that”. Won’t be going back there.
