The Late August name derives from the joyful time of year when the Sears catalog would arrive at your doorstep, bringing a deep desire and wonderment to all who would receive it and begin feverishly circling the items that would hopefully arrive for Christmas.

Our restaurant, set in the previous Historic Downtown Sears building, seeks to bring that same wonder to guests through its atmosphere, service, and cuisine. Echoing the mission of Lucille's Hospitality, which is committed to “Serving the Past, Feeding the Future,” Late August’s menu explores the culinary heritages of Chef Chris Williams and Chef Sergio Hidalgo by bringing the dishes and flavors from both their youths and the experiences to date creating a culturally culinary celebration.

    We are thrilled to introduce a brand-new Saturday brunch series, inspired by the restaurant’s recent collaboration with Hola Houston and InStyle Magazine in Mexico City. Bringing the flavors of the Mexico City event, this brunch will offer a unique fusion of Mexican and African American culinary traditions that captivated influencers and media abroad. Now, Houstonians can enjoy this one-of-a-kind menu crafted by Chefs Chris Williams and Sergio Hildalgo. In partnership with Tequila Región de México, the brunch will feature two specially crafted cocktails: the Mexican Negroni, featuring their blanco tequila, and a Sazerac showcasing their reposado, adding a perfect pairing to the vibrant flavors of the brunch menu.

    Food was 1st class, but the service wasn’t just poor, it was BAD. To start, we ordered wine and cocktails. There are only 9 red wines on their list, my first two choices, they were OUT. The rest of the list, was poorly curated. Once we selected our 3rd wine choice, we also ordered cocktails. After 15 minutes, I had to stop our waiter to see if he could carry our order from the bar to the table, where the drinks had been sitting for 5 minutes (so the super cold martini was now barely cold). I guess the server was overstretch, or. Just enjoyed his conversation at the next table, But the good. The food was fabulous, truly enjoyed the Cabrito Stew, which was fabulous, the Sirloin done perfectly, as was the Octopus. The portions were plentiful, and we requested to take our remaining portions home. But, alas, the lousy service arrived. Upon arriving home, we found the Cabrito, but our 1/2 order of Sirloin was not to be found. I hope our server enjoyed his dinner! With such shabby service, I cannot recommend this restaurant, even with such succulent food. The service was so bad, and not just by our server, it was systemic throughout, as we spoke to another couple on our way out. Same words, great food, pitiful service. I don’t expect to see this restaurant in 6 months. I’ll head back to their sister restaurant, Lucille’s and leave this one behind.

    Wow!! Attended their inaugural brunch today. What a remarkable dining experience!!! The food was outstanding, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our server Nicholas was highly attentive and made our experience even more memorable. We shall be back soon.

    Wonderful restaurant. I’ve been anticipating it’s opening and it did not disappoint. Going back for sure and had a nice chat with the owner of Chris Williams.

    Outstanding dining experience! The origin of the cuisine made it even more delightful to try. The staff and service were outstanding. I think I tried half the menu, even things upon reading that I wasn’t sure that I would enjoy. I would go back 1000 times.

    This restaurant was so refreshing with a new twist on old favorites. The fusion was incredible and the Somm Danny Davis is incredible !

    Dined here for dinner on a weekday. The restaurant was very empty and quiet but it wasn’t a negative thing, just not what we expected. The service folks were very kind. We were surprised to learn that they hadn’t dined at Lucille’s when we asked comparative questions but had a good idea of Late August menu and shared their favorites. When our entrees arrived someone got a meal completely different from what they ordered. Although it was removed from the bill, it damped the experience because we didn’t want wait for the correct meal to be made and settled on what was brought out. Overall, the food and experience was just ok. I likely will not return or recommend the restaurant to friends or family.
