   What a flawless experience. I was staying at the Viata for one night, so I booked a reservation for one for dinner at Laurel.  I feel like I was treated like royalty. I ordered the focaccia with whipped ricotta, potate frite, and a Bitter Italian salad, and it was all just delicious.  There was a musician in the lobby of the bar, and that just made the atmosphere all the more perfect. I recommended both dinner and a stay at the Viata to all of my friends.

   We had high hopes for this restaurant but it really fell short. The waiter was busy and didn’t get our drinks to us until after our appetizer was nearly finished. He never checked on us and several times we were searching him down to order or such. Food wasn’t that great. Prices were extremely high. Small portions. Thank goodness we didn’t share. We normally do…. Won’t be back.

   We had an amazing experience. Our Server recognized us from the night before and he went out of his way to prove that Laurel dropped the ball the night before. We were treated like royalty and we didn't even ask for it. We were visited by an Executive and he apologized, as well, for the night before. There are a lot of places near the hotel to eat. I am glad that we didn't allow our Valentine's Dinner experience to stop us from an outstanding Breakfast experience!!!

   Had a fixed experience meal with wine pairing. The food was generally pretty good. The wines were mostly disappointing. While we're not snobs my wife an I are experienced wine consumers. The sparkling wine was flat. The first "sauvignon blanc" was odd. The waiter did offer two others that came closer. The reds were a bit better. The waiter was the best part of the experience. He tried to be very accommodating. Final bill was inflated because I missed that the gratuity was already included.

   The food was just not good. The pizza ($22) was floppy. When we asked them to take it back and just crisp it up so we could pick the slice up to eat it, they graciously made us a new one but the top was all burnt and the bottom was still undercooked. The bucatini pasta was just okay. The ham so so fatty i had to pick it all out ($32). The Caesar salad had way too much dressing to my taste but it was delicious ($15)

   Unfortunately the worst dinner in Austin. There are better places. Great potential but just lousy.

   The kitchen staff was overwhelmed by an event causing significant delays in service. It took over an hour to get our starter which was cold. The mains were average but not equivalent to the price.

    Laurel is a beautiful restaurant. The staff is attentive and polite. Parking is so easy and free. The multiple times I have been there, the food has been delicious.
