Since 1931 and revived in 2024, Restaurant Ile de France combines old-world French culinary traditions with contemporary Montreal influences in the heart of Downtown.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Chef Liam Hopkins

From the OpenTable editors: The stunning Art Deco architecture is reason enough to visit this landmark restaurant in Centre Eaton de Montréal, which first opened in 1931. Evenings flow from the elegant cocktail bar to the fine dining restaurant, where diners can indulge in classic fare such as prime beef tenderloin or gnocchi Parisienne while admiring the space’s well-preserved historic features.

The service was almost non existent. Never asked if we wanted more drinks, food took really long (she probably forgot to fire the 2nd course) and there was a side missing. We sat with our empty plates for a while. After getting up and walking over to the bar to ask for the bills and asked to separate some items, she came back and said she separated it differently than we asked but she can reseperate. Why? The waitress spoke so low we can barely hear her and she apologized for being brain dead at the end of service. With this level of service (I’ve been a waitress for 15 years) you have the audacity to have the lowest tip option 18% on the card machine. Seems like all the staff are fresh out of ITHG and don’t really know what they’re doing. The food was great though.

Was looking forward to experiencing Le 9e and exceeded expectations. Incredible decor and ambiance. Genevieve our server was amazing! And the food…started with steak tartar and lobster cake both terrific. We shared a daily special, roast Quebec lamb which was perfect. Sides were brocolette, and gnocchi Parisienne. All very generous portions and great presentation. We were impressed with the depth and the value of their wine list and selected a perfect Saint Emilion. We have have discovered our new favourite restaurant in Montreal. It was so good that we returned for brunch the next day.
