   The food was delicious. However, I felt ripped off by all of the service charges. Bread was six dollars for a few pieces, they charged $10 for a $2 bottle of sparkling water, they charged $35 for my mom's birthday champagne corkage and they charged $35 to cut a cake. They also charged the health surcharge which I always find to be troubling. The prices for the entrées weren't bad but when you add in all of these other charges, the cost was significantly higher than much better restaurants. The ambience was just so so. It did not in anyway resemble a French bistro. All in all the experience was average. I would not go back. I am updating this review since I just received a nasty message from the owner telling me that I was not a good person. Rather than addressing my concerns, he took to personally attacking me. Very unacceptable. I’m afraid that I cannot recommend this restaurant and get conscience when it’s management treats its customers the way that I was treated. Buyer beware

   David, I'm sorry you felt ripped off. Bread service is $6 for an 8" baguette, the cost is really in the house made butter. Not sure where you can get a 750ml of Pelegrino for $2, our wholesale cost is more than that! $35 for corkage is pretty standard in SF, I often see $50 at some restaurants of the same calibur. $5 per person for cake cutting is also pretty standard. Both of these charges are because you are bringing in outside food and drink to a business that makes its money BY SELLING FOOD AND DRINKS! We charge 4% For the healthcare mandate, most of the restaurants in the area charge 5% - 7% We pay over $80K annually to the city for the healthcare mandate, 4% doesnt even fully cover it for us. I am however sorry that you felt ripped off, because that is not what we are trying to do.

   We had an early business dinner with a party of eight. Food was authentic French and very good. Service was solid. A bit pricey at about $100 a person - food, cocktail, wine. Well worth it and will return

   Le Central is a reliable restaurant for experiencing well-prepared French bistro cooking. I had deviled eggs, the 1/2 roast chicken with fries, Brussels sprouts with bacon, and a French Martini. All the food was delicious, as was my cocktail. Our waiter was professional, charming, and funny, which added to the pleasure of my dining experience.

   Eaten at Le Central a number of times and away had an awesome time, today , not so good. The food was,as always very good, all four of us really enjoyed our dishes. I noticed an ABC license change, and was told a member of staff had purchased the business. The disappointment today was the service. Not one smile, small talk or polite comment. Our server, told us there were no specials, yet we heard another server tell the table behind us of two. I questioned the other server to confirm and he told me of the specials. A while later our server came over and said there were specials, with no apology or anything. He seemed friendly with other tables, but not ours. I don’t want to think it was because of my wife’s authenticity, but it did feel a little strange. I will return again, but will unfortunately ensure he is not our server

   Le Central is a San Francisco classic. I’ve been going for 30 years and the food remains delicious and the service helpful and attentive. For the first time I had the roasted chicken, at our waiter’s recommendation. Outstanding. Accompanied by delicious string fried potatoes and delicious Brussels sprouts. A hit!
