Le Coq is James Beard Best Chef finalist Tara Monsod’s new wave French steakhouse. Inspired by the modern Parisian culinary landscape, chef Tara reinvents classic dishes through her signature approach, blending cross-cultural references and ingredients for a distinctly SoCal expression of French cuisine. Bright touches and hyper-seasonal products ground the menu with San Diego style, while nods to chef Tara’s Southeast Asian background are interwoven throughout. Located in downtown La Jolla in a 1930’s historic building with exposed brick walls, steel trusses, and a barrel-vaulted ceiling. Into this storied shell is inserted a posh 1970’s diner club.

Service was good, not exceptional . Food was either very good or just average. Some dishes were outstanding, some disappointing. Tuna, salmon, mashed potatoes were outstanding. Turkey, short rib, average. The vibe is pretty darn cool. Bathrooms are a work of art. Getting food consistently exceptional at this price point would bring us back.

Had the Thanksgiving meal, amazing price for not only the quality but also the quantity we got. Service was excellent, ambiance made me feel like i was in europe. Overall 10/10!

The special Thanksgiving dinner was excellent! I wished the side dishes had more greens, because I ended up having too much potatoe. French fries with my filet mignon and mash potatoes for side. The desserts were heavenly!

The food and svc is great. The only thing of annoyance is an extra 4% Svc Charge - on top of 20 % Gratuity. Just ridiculous!
