Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Chef Rob Feenie

From the OpenTable editors: This French fine-dining icon has dazzled Vancouverites since 1983. Legendary chef Michel Jacob passed the torch to his friend and Iron Chef America winner Rob Feenie in 2024, and Feenie still celebrates the restaurant's French origins while incorporating some of his West Coast roots. Expect Dover sole deboned tableside in an herb beurre blanc, steak tartare, and other classics served in an elegant white tablecloth dining room.

Food and service was good overall. Just found our seeting next to the group table to be a bit louder. They were super accommodating with the celiac allergy. Only issue is we had made a note on our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary and their was no mention of it during our dinner.

First, the good. For appetizers, my husband got the mushroom soup and I got the endive salad. Both of these had incredible flavor and texture. The dressing on the salad was the perfect level of sweetness to balance the endive and Roquefort. For mains, I had the lamb and my husband had the duck. Again, these dishes were wonderful and we were both praising their varied flavors and perfect preparation. Now, the bad. This restaurant is just too loud. My husband and I both had trouble hearing the server, which resulted in some confusion with our service. The service was, unfortunately, slow and not very attentive. I had an empty water bottle sitting on the edge of our small table for at least 10 minutes. Not a big deal when you're not paying over $400 for two people who don't drink. We also waited over 15 minutes between courses (after finishing), which we both attributed to a slow kitchen because the servers checked back several times. Last and definitely not least, the potato rosti with the caviar service were a complete failure. The flavor of the fat and potatoes overwhelmed everything but the capers. My husband ended up just eating the caviar on the spoon with the other accompaniments, and eating the rosti/tater tots with capers. Simple water crackers would have been so much better.

Le Crocodile has the best ambiance of all restaurants. Jesse, our waiter was super attentive. Food is not as great as the old Le Crocodile.

First time dining since Rob Feenie took over. Overall dishes were well presented and reminded me of the old Le Crocodile (a good thing). Excellent service from Katrina. Definitely will return.

We REALLY loved everything we ordered, especially the fois gras terrine, which was a solid 5 out of 5; however we were extremely disappointed to find out that the escargot and steak tartare were unavailable as these two dishes are a staple for us at any French restaurant, although we do understand that it was out of their hands. We're definitely coming back to try them!
