Lilong brings you an authentic Shanghai community and street dining experience. It is all about lively, memorable round-the-table moments with friends and family. Lilong is the name for the centuries-old street communities in Shanghai that are connected by laneways. A cross between English terrace-houses and the traditional Chinese courtyard, these residential back street neighbourhoods are tucked away behind the commercial centre of the city’s boulevards. At Lilong we re-imagine the pulsating melting pot of street food and the heart, soul and rhythm of the streets of Shanghai. The atmosphere embodies a cheerful meeting and eating place that has been such an integral part of Shanghai living. Lilong’s signature range of noodles, dumplings and other dishes reflects those genuine flavours and traditional cooking techniques.

Fun dining, reasonable prices and great food You are presented with a huge menu with pictures of the food and then an order form that you complete yourself. The food comes out in a random order but was all very good. Service was fine.

The food quality is always amazing but the service was unfortunately so poor this visit. From the start drinks didn’t arrive until we asked three times, three of the dishes arrived without rice which actually came out once we had nearly finished?? The duck was deliver to either tables next to us which name in well after us, again we had to ask twice where this was coming. Two other dishes came right at the end which were so simple to make. Overall the dinner was a train smash. Kindly we were provided a reduction in the bill. Food was great when it arrives but be aware it could be one or the dinners you need to continue follow up on dishes and drinks.

The braised pork was too dry, and many dishes lacked flavor. The lemon tea I ordered only tasted like syrup.

Self ordering from an extensive menu can be challenging, although the illustrated menu helps. Waiters were either scarce or hard to call over.

The atmosphere and food were both pretty good, the menu is quite extensive, and the food is served quickly, overall the experience is generally good.

Pleansantly surprised to find this authenic Shanghai restaurant in West End. The food was delicious and plentiful, with a good range of vegetarian options, but many, many meat and seafood choices. BYO wine ($10 surcharge).
