The Lobby Lounge at Fairmont Grand Del Mar has been magnificently reimagined to combine the lavish splendor of Italian palazzos with the natural grandeur of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. Indulge in afternoon tea as the San Diego sun casts its golden light through large arched windows, or linger into the evening over inspired tapas, cocktails, and elevated programming under the warm glow of Venetian glass chandeliers.

Take in the beauty of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve —or while sipping a craft cocktail in the bar. In a specially commissioned mural that spans all four walls, artist Jim Wodark pays homage to the canyon’s most iconic elements: its ancient rocks, cascading waterfall, and distant mountains.

My three friends and I did the Afternoon Tea, and to be honest, it wasn’t anything special compared to the price. The savory bites were quite ordinary, and the taste wasn’t exceptional just a strange mix of beets and beef pâté. The sweets also tasted odd, with some of them even having a perfume like flavor. The selection of tea was good, though, and the service was great, but I wouldn’t recommend this.

Great experience. Food and service were top level. So much better than the Tea at the Del Coronado. The servers took such great care of us. Came by the table and offered to refill our tea pots numerous times. Food was very good and freshly prepared. Looking forward to returning. Highly recommend.

Reserved this for afternoon high tea for a birthday. Will say it was a 10/10 experience. The ambiance was beautiful, quiet, and we had a live pianist. The tea was really good! We felt that by the second pour the flavors were more prominent. The tower of food was excellent! I would return again!

Not much food for a $ 125-holiday tea. The scones were not warm, and the smoked salmon open sandwich was very dry. We love the ambiance, but it is difficult to justify the bill.

Was a lovely tea. It was disappointing to only be offered a table right in the walkway by the hostess stand or in the separate library where we couldn’t directly enjoy the piano or the extensive decor (only lightly decorated in there). I feel we had a far different experience than those in the main room despite having an advance reservation and arriving on/ahead of time. So although it was lovely it wasn’t what I was excited to bring my daughter to.

The lobby was beautifully decorated for the season. The tea options were wide with oolong to herbal all laid out with matching tea pots, cups and saucers. The sandwiches were a modern take on the traditional ones with a sweet potato and maple, salmon with pomegranate garnish, and a turkey salad brioche. The vanilla bean and fruit scones served with strawberry-blueberry jam and clotted cream were excellent. The desserts were also beautiful and delicious.
