Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Joel Stocks

From the OpenTable editors: One of the New York Times's 50 favorite restaurants of 2024, L'Orange charms with its refined, Pacific Northwest-influenced Mediterranean small plates and superbly curated wine in a homey, cozy atmosphere. The combo quickly captivated local critics and diners, who show up in droves for dishes like roasted garlic soup with grapes or poached and grilled cauliflower with curried granola. It all obviously pairs beautifully with owner Jeff Vejr's large, varied selection.

Philosophy

At L'Orange we hope to transport you back to a time when full service dining was the norm. We hope that you feel the warmth of our space, the ease of our hospitality, and the delicious layers of flavors that our food and wine provide.

It was a wonderful meal at L’Orange. Every dish we had was full of flavor and well-executed. The duck confit was so tender, it almost felt like pork belly or a tender shank. We managed to snag one of the limited Chicken Liver tarts with a plum jam and it was decadent. I enjoyed the lamb crepe, which was like a French burrito. For desert, we had the famous Orange cake with a crème brûlée style top. It was quite nice, but my favorite desert was the Earl Grey ice cream topped with crumbled shortbread. I also enjoyed the two wines I had that are made by one of the owners. While they were quite slammed due to an issue with reservation software, the service was friendly and knowledgeable. The set up of the restaurant was quirky and our table faced other tables in a way that felt almost like communal dining. We are quite social so we enjoyed this setting, but it is something to keep in mind if you are looking for a more romantic dinner. The decor was fun with bright patterned wallpaper. It is a steal for the quality of the food in my opinion. I am sure the prices will change with them being listed as one of the Top 50 restaurants in the country by the New York Times. Highly recommend it.

One of the best dinners of the year. So many memorable dishes. Never had a cheese rosette before. But the way the cheese was cut made it so memorable. And the cheese itself was fantastic. At first I just thought, "Good cheese." But then these layers of flavor kept coming in with complexity after complexity. We had a bottle of orange Viognier made by the owner. It complemented everything, and everything differently. Each different dish brought out a different side of the wine. The soup was, well, I've never had a french onion soup like it. The crispy cheese basket and bread pudding croutons... I mean bread pudding croutons? Who does that? Oh L'Orange dose. So much flavor. And it was vegetarian! Only found out after. Never would have thought so. So much depth of flavor. So many places have a fried cauliflower appetizer now, but they poach and grill theirs to again, layer the flavor. Best duck I've ever had. Who knew it's better cooked confit, then boned and reassembled into a mini duck loaf crisped all over in duck fat. And that sturgeon. Holy hell, that's one of the best fish dishes ever. And the most expensive thing on the menu is $30. In 2024, for food of that quality, such good value for money. Even the cake was extra special. Even at fancy places, it might have some whipped cream, maybe a little sauce. Their orange cake is bruleed and then has these little bright orange globules of flavor dotted around it. Can't remember if they were more acidic, sweet, or both. But just so, so good. Would most definitely return. There are so many surprises on the menu. The way the cheese is presented, the cauliflower preparation, the fish that's so much more, the cake with unexpected bits and bobs. I'm excited to order differently the next time, because, well, so many more surpises! The main server who helped us was a pure delight. Just one of the most charming people you'll ever meet.

The table wasn’t ready when we arrived at 8:30, however we were accommodated at the bar while we waited. Dinner was amazing. We were the only ones left, so I believe the kitchen was ready for our dessert order. We ended up not having dessert because of the hour. I think my only complaints feeling a bit rushed at the end.

We went because the New York Times noted it was one of the top 50 restaurants in America. The Times was spot on! Do not miss the mussels and clams.

We were lucky enough to snag a table at the chef’s counter which is really a curved bar. We had an excellent experience with Ivan recommending half pours with each course. All the food was stellar, especially the sturgeon and duck confit. Don’t miss the orange cake. We love this place!
