Nestled in a 1920s mission-style home in the heart of Houston’s Museum District, Lucille's specializes in well-refined Southern cuisine with infusions of international techniques and flavors. The restaurant serves as a tribute to the culinary tradition began by Executive Chef & Owner Chris Williams’ great-grandmother, Lucille B. Smith, who was a culinary pioneer and successful entrepreneur who founded her own food corporation. Today, the Lucille’s team continues to pay homage to their namesake by replicating some of her most famous recipes while embellishing others to create innovative takes on Southern food classics.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Christopher Williams

From the OpenTable editors: Southern staples get progressive twists at this Houston mainstay helmed by acclaimed chef and James Beard finalist Chris Williams. In a 1920s mission-style home dressed with warm woods and family photographs, he brings a refined touch to Texas favorites like tender oxtail tamales and a brined, slow-fried yardbird with honey-spiced gravy—all inspired by his great-grandmother Lucille B. Smith, a culinary innovator in her day.

One of Houston’s great gastronomical gems. Total deliciousness. Southern authenticity at its best. Perfectly prepared fried green tomatoes; do your self a favor and have them add grilled shrimp and andouille sausage. Best fried catfish ever, simultaneously both crispy and crunchy. Creative bar program. Informative and friendly service. And comfortably cozy. A bit pricey, but hey, you get what you pay for.

We went on a girls' trip, and everything was fantastic. I highly recommend making a reservation, especially for brunch, as we saw several people being turned away because they were booked. Additionally, we paid for valet parking, which was also excellent.

Finally tried Lucille’s brunch! If been there for dinner, but never for brunch. Four of us ate there, and we all gave it a 7.5 out of 10. The place was clean, not noisy, the check in people were nice, waiter was good. No complaints. Good was…I don’t wanna say “meh”. But maybe I’d hyped it up so much in my head I was expecting it to taste spectacular. It was good, don’t get me wrong. Just not great.

I've been several times but today the food was not the same. The blackened fish with grits and it was not blackened and was undercooked. My friend had the friend chicken and it was over fried, hard to eat and meat was dry. The drink was good, service was ok. We were seated close to two other tables and we were all on top of each other. We all could hear all our conversations. I love supporting black businesses but I don't know when I'll be back.

Found this place from a 2023 NY Times article, so we anticipated a stellar meal. Overall, the restaurant was good, just not stellar. Some dishes, like the Yardbird fried chicken with collard greens were fantastic. The pork shank was a bit dry, served warm, not hot, and lacked flavor, although the accompanying bean ragu with bits of bacon was yummy. Croissant bread pudding was good and warm, although the accompanying ice cream was half melted. Cocktails were inventive. Service was attentive. Noise level was loud but tolerable. The meal was a bit rushed. 45 minutes from start to finish. Last, I don’t mind paying for valet service, but $10 is huge.

Always good, love this Lucille’s. Octopus, fried green tomatoes and chicken to die for. We will be back!
