For decades, MacArthur Park has been about bringing people together around outstanding California BBQ and comfort food in a casual yet elegant setting.
You’ll find us nestled in the heart of downtown Palo Alto, and walk back in time in to the simple elegance of a bygone era in a dining room designed by Julia Morgan in 1918.
We take traditional BBQ on a ride with the richness of California’s bounty, offering our signature Baby Back Ribs, fresh fish, meats and chicken, steak, unique salads and comfort food using local farm fresh produce. Due to a private party, we were seated in a smaller room in the back (we were advised of this in advance and accepted this option). The room could use a little sprucing up, but it wasn’t bad. Food was overall good. Only real issue was our server who only had 3 tables yet we waited about 10 minutes before he came over (another small group was seated after us). He told us the soup option and took our orders and really didn’t say anything else. No personality whatsoever, didn’t come back to refill drinks or ask if we needed more beer or wine. After we declined dessert, we expected him to bring over our bill but I had to flag him down as we had an event to go to.

The grilled chicken was cooked to perfection and paired nicely with a glass of Zin. The atmosphere with the huge Christmas tree in the open area was delightful. Overall, a wonderful dinner with friends for a very reasonable price. This place has never failed to please over the past forty years.

Went for my birthday with my brother and friends. Server was excellent.. friendly, fun, informative! Loved her. Food is consistently very good. We had salmon, scallops, and 2 different kinds of chicken. Everything was well done.

MacArthur Park is always reliably good for food and service. It is a pleasure to dine in this historical building. During the holiday season it is beautifully decorated with lights and a giant Xmas tree. We make a special effort to enjoy a holiday evening with them.

The meats and seafood was cooked and seasoned well. The side dishes were less impressive. Yams were over puréed and a bit soupy, the mac and cheese had too much cream and not enough cheese, the stuffing was dry, and they ran out of pumpkin pie. The other desserts were not great. I’ve always loved MacArthur Park but this was very disappointing and expensive.

We really enjoyed our dining experience. It took a while before water was brought to the table and we could order our drinks. But we just went to the buffet and began dinner. There were so many appetizers and entrees. All were delicious: prime rib, salmon, turkey, ribs, and chicken were amazing. The sides and appetizers were numerous and delicious. And it was a great value. There was something for everyone. As we finished, we agreed to repeat the experience.
