This was my fourth visit to Maison Selby over many years. I was meeting an old friend and we decided to go there as French Cuisine is her favourite. It is the beginning of the holiday season and the restaurant was fairly busy and short staffed. The only server they had in our dining room was the bartender who was busy making drinks for not only our room but I believe all the dining rooms. He was also the only server for our room. He was very sweet and apologetic for the long waits. He was doing his very best. He literally was running to attend people. I have nothing but praise for him and he made the very best of the horrible situation he was put in. Everyone in the room was drinking cocktails to embrace the holiday season. He made us both a good martini. Oliver & Bonacini own many restaurants and should know how much staff should be on hand. It is better for them and their patrons to have one staff too many on hand than cause diners, who chose their restaurant versus another, to have an unpleasant experience. The choice of wine by the glass is inferior at best. The server gave us a small sample of two to try as we were undecided. We declined both and I had a Bordeaux that was very light. I had the Coq Au Vin and it was very good. My friend had the Tuna Niçoise salad. She was very disappointed. We also had the Duck liver Parfait which was good but you need to serve more than 4 small pieces of bread with it forcing patrons to order more. The Manager should stepped in to help or apologize and take some pressure off of the server. He was extremely professional! Maison Selby owes that staff member a big thank you. I decided to keep this experience private to MS only as I believe this was a one off situation. I had difficulty booking on line for a reservation. It would only offer me other O&M restaurants. I called and left a message saying I was having difficulty and to call me back. I did not hear from anyone at MS. Finally got in. More to story but no space to write.

My husband and I went to Maison Selby to celebrate my birthday. The environment is original because it includes different rooms with different decorations. The lights are dimmed which gives the place a very cosy and intimate feel. The meals were great: we had the French Onion Soup, the Burger, the Duck and the Berry dessert. We really enjoyed the duck breast with the sauce and the fries that come with the burger, the dessert was delicious as well. The cocktails were a good balance of alcohol and sweetness (Love Affairs & Why So Cerise) however I didn't like the Espresso Martini that much as it wasn't sweet enough. The team and the service were nice. Overall, I was expecting a high-quality experience for this French restaurant but it didn't match my expectations. That's why, I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars. A few improvements to consider to contribute to the higher-quality feel would be: giving a bread basket, having a coat check or more coat hangers around, gifting the dessert for the birthday or at least adding a candle when we ordered the dessert. Because of these details, I wouldn't come back to Maison Selby for a special occasion, but maybe for a regular night out.

The black waitress or manager was so rude, ruined my birthday. I had been here 3 times, I would never going back again. Your restaurant should educated the server how to behave

As a hotel guest at the Canopy Hotel, which is just around the corner, Maison Selby was very convenient for starts. The interior was nice and neat and interesting, being it is a historical building. We dine in the bar area, by the large windows overlooking the neighborhood, very conformable. Service was great, it is nice to dine where the whole staff seem to be happy and outgoing.

Have been several times previously with fairly consistently good service and food. Food was still decent, but every other aspect seems to have taken a material turn for the worse in the last 6 months

Worst experience after 14 days in Toronto! Don’t even think it is French. It was just disgusting. Service was horrible. We ordered a bottle of wine, and 25 min later the waitress said that they were running late as they had to go to the cellar in another building. Happy hour is only for 5 cocktails or a glass of red or white wine. My steak tartare was not great and despite i said i was allergic to garlic they served me frozen fries obviously with pesto. My husband had a coq au vin on mashed potatoes not made today! Try to avoid this place, too expensive for the quality of food or service

In one word, impeccable. Delicious food, wonderful ambiance and highly skilled, well trained servers in black and whites. If you love French Bistro, Maison Selby knocks it out of the park! It felt like I was back in Paris.
