   Rushing through dinner because of the early Lakers game. Service was good but a little slow. The food was great as usual

   First time visiting this mastros in Dtla. I’ve gone to many other mastros. Well first off, when I walked in, the hosts in the front were not welcoming at all. There were no smiles and no warm welcome. It was my fiancés birthday so I called in advance to make sure they provided the menus with happy birthday and his name. They said they would accommodate but when we sat at our Table the menus were not provided. Secondly, the server that helped us was unapproachable and didn’t even welcome our table with a smile either. She also lacked basic menu knowledge that I feel a server should know. Didn’t know the price on things, didn’t mention they served cappuccinos only offered me a coffee. I also asked her for lemons and she said if no one else brought them for me she would get them. No one else brought them of course neither did she so I had to ask a busser for some. She also didn’t recommend anything at all. Overall, her service was mediocre. Definitely not fine dining material. My soup was cold and my fiancés steak had no flavor. I don’t know if I’ll be back but if I do, I’ll probably just sit at the bar. Mastros please step it up.

   The quality that I’m used to having at Mastro’s was very poor quality and overpriced for example we got charged for one crab claw $100 that was not disclosed to us. I don’t think I ever paid that price Mastro’s or any other restaurant. My steak tasted like “roadkill” never had roadkill but I would guess that’s what it would taste like. Our server would walk away while we were talking to her and she wasn’t very attentive. We were still having appetizers and they bought hot towels to wipe our hands, clearly signaling that we need to hurry up. Value yo experience I rate at a negative. The seafood tower which we almost always order was unimpressive. None of the usual dry ice experience and oysters was bad.

   Very good food. Bartender at the bar was really nice. Service was inconsistent. Our server disappeared for 30min towards the end. Might have been understaffed

   Food was amazing, but service was bad , we had reservation at 7:30 pm for 2 and we have to wait until 8 pm to be seated. I saw few waiters for the amount of tables they have. They had live entertainment and the singer was very good . You have to pay for self parking $40 at Circa building or $60 for valet parking, or $100 for VIP parking. There’s no validation from the restaurant, so be prepared.

    I typically go to the ocean club in Malibu, but decided to give DTLA a shot yesterday with the family. The food was delicious as always, but our server although very polite, took very long to take our order, and added a “suggested” gratuity to our table of 4, which wasn’t suggested but charged. I’m always a generous tipper, but this was low key shady. My food total and tax was $523.81 and I had a $300 gift card to use. The suggested tip was 84.78 (18%) and then a grand total of $608.59. I assumed I would get a receipt after charging the gift card and my credit card of $223.81, but instead was charged the difference of the $607.59. The worst is then the credit card receipt showed an amount of $265 remaining and an included gratuity of $42.99 - (which these numbers don’t even make sense) and I ended up giving another 57.00. Remember he had already added his 18% tip on the total of the charged CC receipt. So pretty much they ended up getting a 28% tip in a confusing and deceptive way. Not sure if gratuity at this Maestro’s is auto added on parties or 4 or more, but I may just go to where I know they won’t mess with the receipts and charges in Malibu.
