Overlooking Strawberry Park in the vibrant Mosaic District, our 40-seat patio offers outdoor dining and front row seats to Angelika Film Center’s outdoor screen and prime people-watching.

Inside, exposed pipes and warm brick line the walls surrounding 220 seats, all with views of the glowing wood wall, reclaimed from barn-wood from Rochester, New York. The private Barrel Room accommodates 50 guests and comes with plush booths, a wood-burning fireplace and private wine coolers to store your favorite vintages.

Be careful of bench seating along high-top tables. One our our party fell trying to get down because of unexpected step. When we asked for a first aid kit one of staff said “I’ll get it but it’s usually empty.” Manager was not helpful. He would not give his full name and kept us from leaving until forms were filled out.

We did not have a reservation and they told us 30 minute wait so we went on Open Table to reserve and got a table right away. There were many empty tables. Service was meh. Salad came with dressing when we asked for it on the side, no cutlery, no water even after requested and we weren’t checked on during the meal or offered dessert.

There was a hair in one of our meals. The Manager never addressed the issue and had we not checked our bill, the waiter would have charged us twice for remaking the gross meal.

Even though the restaurant was not busy, the server seemed unavailable & inattentive. We had to ask for menus for everyone & refills of drinks. No receipt was provided. Food was just OK. Expensive.

We have been to Matchbox in Merrifield, VA, several times. It's conveniently located in the middle of the shopping area, alongside the Angelika movie theatre. For New Year's Eve it was not crowded. The service was excellent as the manager suggested a better table for us. My only problem is that the Seared Tuna was too hot; too much pepper. My wife had the ribs and those were excellent.

Had a positive experience overall, the only significant issue was finding plastic in my chicken sandwich. I am a frequent customer and while I am sure I’ll be returning to Matchbox in the future, will likely be skipping on this location in particular.

I went to celebrate my birthday with friends for lunch on a Monday. The service was slow. The server was really good but I don’t think there was enough staff so it took her longer to get everyone taken care of. We had a nice private booth. The food was great.
