Mercato Mio is an Italian inspired restaurant located inside the Hilton Garden Inn, just minutes from Penn State. We strive to design dishes with an Italian-like simplicity so that the quality of our ingredients and the care with which they are handled defines and distinguishes us.     The food was excellent, especially the salad that we shared. They even brought out two plates for us to serve ourselves from. It was an unusual combination of spring mix with cooked butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, dried cranberries, and croutons, with a delicate vinaigrette. The shrimp with pasta and Mediterranean salmon entrees were both very good. We tried two of their specialty bourbon cocktails, and enjoyed both of them. We satin a cozy corner couch-style table, which was comfortable and more intimate. We ate at 6:00, and there were only a few tables occupied. I hope that they have more customers later in the evening. It seems to be a hidden treasure. You should try it!

    The food was terrible and definitely would not recommend. This restaurant is inside the Hilton, which was not mentioned on Trip Advisor. We paid $200 for 4 people to eat; disappointed to say the least.

    I have never written a review before. Picked this restaurant since moving son into PSU and wanted a reservation to be able to get on the road. The poor review is secondary to the food quality - actually worse food experience we have ever had. Appetizer and salads were good. We ordered 2 rigatoni dishes, 1 gnocchi and one spaghetti. The rigatoni "sauce" was what I would describe as beef Bouillion, and the meat was extremely tough. The cream sauce for the gnocchi had flavor but the gnocchi were hard and tasted so freezer burnt they were inedible, and the spaghetti sauce tasted like a can of tomatoes. We were starving from the move but truly could not eat the main dishes. We also ordered the carrots which were good but the brussels sprouts were very dry. The staff should have noted something when the plates were all returned relatively untouched. We did mention our concern of the quality of food to the waitress after we paid the 200+ bill (politely asking to pass the message on to the cooks so hopefully they are made aware ) and proceeded to get food elsewhere.

    Unfortunately the food was terrible, completely tasteless and the pasta (including the gnoqui) was overcooked, the sauce of the rigatoni was watery. The service was also lacking. Waitress was in a rush.

    This is a hotel restaurant without a real kitchen and meals reflect that. With that in mind, on weekends when State College is jam packed, this could be a perfect retreat.

    The meal i ordered was terrible, i took one bite and it was awful. I told the waiter, he apologized but still charged me for the meal.

    excellent in all ways. delicious chopped salad…best ever… amazing mushroom risotto and gnocchi will be ordered every time. presentation looked like a magazine photo. mmmmm…good!

    The bread basket with ricotta and tomato jam delicious. Loved the gemeli except a little too much butter. Lasagna great and nice portion.
