My daughter bought a steak and seafood voucher for my birthday and so I took my daughter with me to use the voucher. As always, the staff were excellent. They were friendly and attentive without being fussy and overbearing. The food was great - rich and thick cullen skink and a tender sirloin with juicy prawns and thick cut chips. We were too full for dessert. This is one of Glasgow's best restaurants.

A great place to gather with friends! We met up with friends and had a great lunch. Everything was tasty and fresh - with the haggis (both traditional and vegetarian) being a great hit in our group. The drinks were flowing and the staff were present without being over bearing! We had a great time - and will go back!

Food was generally good but wine list very limited and the Pinot Grigio we had for £30 was pretty awful. It was blended and 10.5% which is unheard of for a decent white. It reminded me of hotel wedding wine but worse. We did not finish that bottle and went to red instead which was borderline okay. More care needed for wine. Puts me off going back as good restaurant must invest in good quality and value for money for client. Staff also had little knowledge of food and obviously the wine.

Table wasn't ready when we arrived for our booking despite there being free set tables available. Food was good, good value and good quantity but overall service was poor. Service for starters and mains was slow but we weren't in a hurry and the food was good so not an issue. However for desserts the service was terrible. We waited nearly half an hour for 3 scops of ice cream before cancelling the order and seeking the Bill. I mean how long does it take to fill a bowl with three scoops of ice cream?! The Bill was then presented including 3 pints of beer which we hadn't had and a 10% service charge after our service problem. Needless to say the service charge was not included on the revised corrected Bill. Disappointing that service didn't match the quality of the food.

FAQs

Yes, Mharsanta is a popular choice for a date night. Guests frequently praise the cosy, Scottish-themed interior, intimate circular booths and attentive service, which create a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The menu is inventive (haggis lasagne, Cullen skink, fresh fish) and there’s a strong drinks list including whiskies and cocktails to complement your meal. Note that weekends can be lively; for a quieter evening try a midweek booking and reserve a booth for a more intimate experience.

Portions at Mharsanta are generally generous, guests often mention hearty, well‑filled plates and good value for money. Customers frequently praise big portions for mains like pies, fish and steak dishes, and several reviews call the servings “substantial” or “large.” If you’re sharing starters or ordering several courses, the portions are normally filling, so expect satisfying, traditional Scottish portions rather than tiny tasting plates.

Yes, Mharsanta has a full bar. The drinks selection is extensive and regularly highlighted by guests: wines, beers (draught and bottled), a long whisky list and whisky flights, plus signature cocktails and after‑dinner liqueurs. It’s a great spot for whisky tasting or a pre‑dinner cocktail to complement Scottish dishes.

A few dishes stand out: guests repeatedly recommend the Macsween’s Haggis Lasagne and Cullen Skink, and the Traditional Sunday Roast receives high praise. Other favourites mentioned often include the steak & sausage pie, Stornoway black pudding croquettes and venison dishes. If you want a classic Mharsanta experience, try the haggis lasagne or Cullen Skink and finish with the caramel shortcake or honey cheesecake.

Yes, the restaurant is family‑friendly and caters to groups. Guests frequently report comfortable booths, circular booths and large tables suitable for family meals or groups, and the team accepts larger parties. For accessibility specifics (ramps, step‑free access or disabled toilets) there’s no clear information in the listings, so call ahead if you need particular arrangements.

It depends on what you want: for a quieter, value‑for‑money experience choose a midweek lunch (guests enjoy the set lunch menu and relaxed pace). If you want a lively atmosphere and full menu, evenings and weekends are busiest. Sundays are popular for the Sunday roast, book ahead. If you prefer an intimate table, book early and ask for a booth.

Mharsanta offers a mix of seating: comfortable booths (including circular booths), window seats and bar seating, plus larger tables for groups. Guests often praise the cosy booths for intimate meals and the option to be seated in quieter corners. The restaurant does not advertise private party rooms and owner info confirms private party hire is not available, though they do accept larger parties.

Mharsanta has a warm, Scottish‑themed atmosphere, cosy and lively. Guests describe traditional music, friendly staff and welcoming decor that suits both special occasions and casual meals. Evenings can be bustling and sometimes noisy (especially with large bookings), while midweek lunches feel more relaxed. Overall it’s described as convivial, comfortable and authentic Scottish dining in Merchant City.

Casual dress is the stated dress code. Guests typically dine in smart‑casual or relaxed attire, making it an easy choice for both special occasions and everyday meals in the Merchant City area.

Yes, Mharsanta offers vegetarian and vegan choices as well as a dedicated gluten‑free menu. The menus list several vegetarian (V) and vegan (VE) mains and desserts, a Gluten Free Menu with mains and desserts, and gluten‑free burger/bun options. Guests mention vegan options being excellent, though there are some mixed reports so call ahead for strict allergy needs.

Yes, the restaurant appears open to special requests. Guests report arranging birthday desserts and staff have adjusted meals for allergies on several occasions. Because experiences vary, it’s best to call or email ahead (the restaurant also offers online ordering and takeaway) to confirm dietary needs, celebration requests or seating preferences so the team can prepare.

Yes, families do dine here and guests often celebrate birthdays with children. The menu leans to hearty Scottish dishes rather than a formal kids’ menu, but portions are generous and there are simple options like fish & chips and burgers that work well for children. For younger kids consider an earlier seating and call ahead if you need adaptations.

Mharsanta is busiest on weekend evenings and during special periods (Christmas, Sundays for roast); many guests advise booking for those times. Quietest windows are weekday lunches and mid‑afternoons, when guests report quicker service and a more relaxed atmosphere. If you prefer calm dining, aim for a midweek lunch or early week evening.

It depends on your plan: for value and a quieter meal pick a midweek lunch (guests praise the set lunch deals), for a special Sunday roast go on Sunday, and for a lively night out choose a Friday or Saturday evening. Book ahead for weekends and special occasions to secure the seating you prefer.

Yes, guests regularly mention set lunch deals and seasonal/holiday menus, and the restaurant offers whisky flights and signature cocktails for a more experiential visit.
