   Friendly, accommodating staff, waiter tried hard, excellent food (one of my favorite restaurants), but an over an hour wait between excellent salad and what turned out to be a marvelous cioppino entrée put a dark cloud on what could have been an outstanding dining experience. Hopefully, this was just an anomaly. Will be back in hopes of a better timed food preparation! Maybe by ordering a less complex entrée I’ll have a more normal dining experience. Finally, I will mention that they did wave their $25 corkage fee to make up for our inconvenience. A very classy thing to do.

   This was our first time to Montrio. The food was outstanding, with great creativity and flavor. The service was attentive, friendly, and efficient. The ambience was great as well. The only demerits were that the room temperature was a bit cool so I had to leave my jacket on during dinner. There was some confusion in a drink order but it was resolved on the spot. Overall, this is now one of our go-to places in Monterey, especially if we take in a show at the Golden State Theater.

   We had a great dinner at Montrio. The service and staff attentiveness was exceptional, and really made our evening. The ambience was very nice, with a plush comfortable booth, and very low noise, perfect for a cozy date night. The food was creative (the pumpkin crème brûlée appetizer was an experience). The onion soup was full of a sweet onion flavor, unlike the typical salty, beef base bowl we’ve come to fear in other places. Food quality was excellent and everything was very fresh and tasty. Preparation was a little uneven with the risotto slightly undercooked, the cioppino needing a bit more broth, and its toast a bit too charred, but everything was still tasty, and these were small details that didn’t detract too much from the meal. We would go back, and would absolutely recommend it.

   We celebrated our anniversary at Montrio last night and it was fantastic! Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The ambiance was cozy and romantic, we were sat in one of their beautiful booths next to the wine racks and we loved the location. The food was also wonderfully executed... we started with the French onion soup (yum) and mushroom arancini (had a hard time finding the mushroom flavor, it tasted very much like a cheese stick, but was tasty). Entrees were the NY steak (husband loved the fries and accompanied sauce, felt like the spinach was way too garlicky) and the petit filet (so tender, cut like butter, sides were perfection). We finished with the bread pudding dessert which was so good! Overall, a wonderful meal, highly recommend and will most definitely be back on our next trip to Monterey.

   Scallops always great. Service friendly and mindful of time needed to get to show. Wine list a little pricey.
