My wife and I simply had a wonderful evening! Our steaks and the wine, as well as the service were all excellent. Locally owned and operated, The Max Chophouse is a must try! Clay L.

We were so happy to see a good restaurant in Lamar! I liked the Max Chophouse name having grown up in Lamar and its reference to the Maxwell House where we went out to eat as a child. Now if you'll bear with me - I would like to see the dining room be a little more intimate - it felt like we were too spread out. Then, at least in my design world, have the bar at the south end on the Main Street side - so dining on the Main Street north side and an elegant bar on the south. But I do understand that you want the pool table etc - maybe that could stay in back. The entrance could be in a vestibule with the entrance on Main Street. Overall - it's exciting to see this happening!

The Dr. Pepper I ordered was flat. My wife and I ordered the same thing, hers was served timely but I waited 29 minutes for mine for a table of two. When I got my order my order waffle fries were warm not hot. Overall a very poor experience.

This was a great experience. I would go back even though it is 2.5 hours away from our house. Wait staff was outstanding, food was delicious, and the price was worth the portions. We were all stuffed by the time we finished our plates. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were the only ones in the place and were treated like royalty.

The food was superb. We went on Valentine's Day and they gave us free roses and free cheesecake as well. It was very fancy for a non-fancy town, and helped me forget that I had 80 cents. Saw the Mayor. So high-end. Prices were reasonable but the chicken alfredo wasn't as good as the cost. Very nice restaurant.

The Caesar salad was gritty. It had dirt in it. The fries were soggy. The steak was good.
